REPAIR & MAINTENANCE
WORKSHOPS BY JOHN COOK
John Cook will once again be running harmonica repair and maintenance workshops this year.
Not only does John repair and maintain harmonicas full time, he also designs and manufactures custom harmonicas and repair tools in his workshop located just outside London. John is one of the few repairers that run regular harmonica repair and servicing classes in his workshop, teaching skills and techniques in a very hands on way.
Many of you may have seen his regular repair tips on facebook. We are very fortunate that he has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to share his knowledge in a fun and informal style that will guarantee you will take away some great tips on getting the most out of your instrument.
WORKSHOPSBEGINNERS WILL NEED A DIATONIC HARMONICA IN THE KEY OF C
ALL OTHER LEVELS BRING YOUR DIATONIC HARMONICAS
Workshops by Giles Hedley: Aimed at blues harp players who are no longer beginners - not covering technique, but how
you choose what to play in the moment - how you support other musicians, express the mood of a song, dig into a groove, build excitement or lay back. We will explore this by playing in various scenarios and combinations. My motto: technique is just the start – what really counts is how you use it!
Workshops by Richard Taylor:
If you always wondered where to start, I will take you by the hand on a journey of enlightenment, from opening the box, developing key harp techniques, building repertoire and personally delivering you to the doorstep of note bending. You'll start from a broad base of notes, chugging and vamping, learn the principles of straight harp and cross harp, zone in on single note playing and hand techniques, and finally attempt your first draw and blow bends.
Workshops by Rollo Markee:
Focusing on Rhythm, Scales and Bass Lines, Rollo will help you to devise a practice regime incorporating these skills and improve these techniques to expand and lift your blues playing to new heights. Scales? boring? Oh no they aren’t.
