Reconfiguration of Exam Objectives

The BSCM exam would remain as a standalone exam expanded to 150 questions and 3 ½ hours to introduce new technology-enhanced item types.

The second exam would cover the content contained in MPR, DSP, ECO and SMR (weighing 25% each) through a sampling process that we currently use for existing exams and be expanded to 150 questions and 3 ½ hours.

The new exam configuration will remain psychometrically validated and legally defensible.

The CPIM body of knowledge would not change nor would the knowledge, skills and abilities the candidate is expected to master.

Ensuring Successful Transition

Modules 2-5 as well as the new combined exam will be offered simultaneously during an extended interval providing individuals time to transition.

The 10-year exam expiration policy for legacy BSCM exams will continue to be honored.

Candidates will be assured to either begin or continue their CPIM pursuits.

For those who have passed a few exams, there will be less financial investment required to complete the legacy CPIM configuration.

For those who have passed a few exams, waiting for the new combined exam will require a review of material that they were already tested on.

Communication will be timed and distributed in a manner to avoid a potential “run on the market.”

Frequently Asked Question

Q: How do you know that 75% of those who earned BSCM will never complete their CPIM? Perhaps a significant percentage of them are just in process.

A: What we said is "75% of candidates who passed BSCM never earned CPIM." This is based on the number of candidates who passed Basics between 2008 and 2016 and did not earn their certification. Certainly, some may be "in process," but we looked at 8 years, and the numbers have been very consistent.

36 © APICS Confidential and Proprietary

Frequently Asked Question

Q: When should a student decide when to move to the two-part system versus current 5 modules, i.e. if they have taken two or three courses should they continue under existing format or switch to new system in fall?

A: If the student has only passed Basics, they may want to consider waiting for Part 2. If they have passed any additional exams, they will have to weigh the costs and time-line issues to determine their course.

Page 37: APICS Board Meeting Update - APICS Great Lakes Districtapicsgreatlakes.org/images/downloads/2017_SCC/apics_bod_update.pdf · chaprel@apics.org if you have a question about a specific

37 © APICS Confidential and Proprietary

Frequently Asked Question

Q: I was told current BSCM goes away Sept 2017, is that true?

A: In response to partner requests, the last date for BSCM Exams is now 12/31/2017. This is in response to partners who were scheduling Fall Basics classes because they didn't think they would be ready for a Part 1 class at that time. Courseware sales for BSCM will still end when the new Learning Systems are released (late August to early September), so careful inventory planning will be needed for the fall classes. We will not be accepting returns on legacy material after the sale of those materials end.

Frequently Asked Question

Q: What has caused the price of the Basics program and exam to be raised so high if it is covering the same material?

A: The addition of new technology-enhanced items while expanding breadth of coverage in a longer exam format contributes to the increase in price.

Answer

At the moment we are still drafting the materials so we do not have a definitive answer yet.

However, based on our initial estimates we expect the Part 1 class to consist of roughly 20 – 25 hours of class time. This would total as 7 sessions 3-hours in length, or 3 full days of instruction.

Part 2 will consist of roughly 35 - 40 hours of class time. This would total as 12 sessions 3-hours in length, or 5-6 full days of instruction. In total, for both Part 1 and Part 2 the 3-hour agenda would total 19 - 20 sessions and the full-day agenda would total 8-9 days
