API-U Trainer Application

REVISION 1

Thank you for requesting an API Global Industry Services (GIS) API-U® Trainer Application. This Application must be used when applying to teach the following API-U® owned courses: API Spec Q1®, API Spec Q2®, Fundamentals of Auditing, and Lead Auditor.

There are three parts to this application. Part 1 outlines the API-U Trainer Qualifications needed to be an API-U Trainer. Part 2 describes the API-U Trainer Qualification Process once an applicant is considered. Part 3 is the API-U Trainer Application Form, which provides API-U with the basic information required for processing your inquiry. Please include as much detailed information as possible when completing Part 3 section.

API-U Trainer ApplicationIntroduction

1. Education

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent GED with technical training

• Desired – University/College (post-secondary) degree in a technical field

2. Training

• Auditing techniques (API Spec Q1, API Spec Q2, ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor Course, internal auditor training, ISO

19011 training, other lead auditor training)

• QMS standards (API Spec Q1, API Spec Q2, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, etc.)

• Technical training (ASME inspections, welding, service industry training, etc.)

3. Current Auditor or Lead Auditor Certification from a third-party international or national personnel/auditor certification body (IRCA, RAB-QSA, etc.) or equivalent experience, skills, knowledge and ability which may include any or all of the following:

• Previous certification as an auditor from a recognized national or international certification body

• Over four (4) years experience performing quality management system audits (third or second-party audits) in the oil and gas industry

• Over seven (7) years technical experience in equipment manufacturing, inspection or other related activities within the oil and gas industry

• Technical and auditing competence that can be verified through referral, references, previous performance evaluation/observation reports, review of audit and inspection reports, or other documented reporting and evaluation

• Verification that the applicant has successfully completed training and examination on quality management system and/or other technical standards (i.e., lead auditor training in API Spec Q1, API Spec Q2 and ISO 9001; ASME inspector training, etc.)

• Past documented performance history performing audits and/or other technically related services on behalf of API

1. API Identifies a Need for Trainers in Applicant’s Region

• Number of course requests

• Oil and gas industry demand for licensing/registration

• Evaluations by our sales personnel in conjunction with industry representatives/experts

2. API Looks for Candidates

• Industry references

• Unsolicited resumes/enquiries

3. Initial Review of Qualifications

• Applicant must meet training, education and field experience requirements

4. Interview is Scheduled

• Minimum phone interview with API-U Program Manager.

• Desired – in person interview with other API-U Master Trainer or Global Industry Services staff

• Review techniques and experience

• Review all qualification requirements

• Assess English communication skills

5. Assessment of Qualifications and Interview Results

• Determine whether to proceed with applicant

6. Observation/Training Scheduled

• Minimally, attend one (1) Train the Trainer course held by a Master and to be observed by a Master Trainer

• Learn API program requirements

• Familiarize applicant with the API forms, procedures, protocols

• Master Trainer evaluates the skills and techniques and submits comments to API for consideration

7. Complete API Spec Course Tests

• Tests relating to API technical specification requirements and content, as applicable

• Must score 80% to pass and be qualified to teach to the specs

8. Review Observations and Training Comments

• Based on results, experience and evaluation reports, more training/observations may be required

9. Final Qualification

• Successful observations and training audits – positive feed back from a Master Trainer

• Sign an API-U contract. Contractor agrees to establish training dates and locations and pays API-U a 30% royalty per attendee based on their registration/trainee fees

10. Ongoing Evaluation and Qualification

• Maintain certification to internationally recognized auditor/personnel qualification body

• Positive observation/evaluations every three (3) years by a qualified API staff member – Audit Program, Management, Quality Associate, Master Trainer

• Continued positive evaluations from training courses attendees

• Participate in Train the Trainer courses when training courses materials are updated

• Attend Trainer Summit
