Artemisprime Holdings (APH) is a media, marketing and advertising business.

As a business we have continuously strived to meet our clients needs and aid with their respective market growth and development.

It is in this light that the APH team has developed this proposal that highlights a unique opportunity to both empower the community whilst exploiting multifaceted critical business growth opportunities for P&G Brands.

Why “MY Spaza Shop”: The inclusion of the word “MY” to Spaza Shop is deliberate and is meant to conger up a sense of personal ownership and attachment that we believe is central to the success of this project.

We unpack this proposal further in the following slides.

What are Spaza Shops

Wikipedia correctly defines a Spaza shop as: ” A Spaza shop is an informal convenience shop business in South Africa, usually run from home. They also serve the purpose of supplementing household incomes of the owners, selling everyday small household items.” We would add in predominately township and informal areas.

Some interesting Spaza Shop facts: There are varying perceptions about the word “Spaza” and the debate is still raging in some sectors , one truth however is that “Spaza Shop” is a uniquely South African concept understood by the majority of the residents of this Great land.

• At least 150 000 Spaza shops across the country (no accurate number, retail sector projection) • Each shop employs 2 – 3 people, who in turn support an average of 4 family members .• R5 - R7 billion is the amount estimated to move through these shops collectively annually.

APH Spaza Shops Sites

APH Spaza Shop Sites : As a business we have a keen focus on the so called “lower LSM or emerging market” , we call it township or Kasi market. Our work over the years has allowed us to develop a massive database of Spaza shops. We have addresses owner details of over 2 000 Spaza shops nationally. The map below is a representation of our reach:

Challenges facing Spaza Shops

Challenges : • Majority of store owners don’t have skills to run successful Spaza shops • Spaza Shops opened as a means of survival not source of prosperity • Spaza shops have poor signage and branding • Function in isolation instead of using the leveraging power of the collective • Foreigners are invading the sector killing local opportunity (Pakistan , Ethiopian) • The development of the Township Mall taken large segment of Market but opportunity here.

Our Solution Our proposition:

1. Provision of information to Spaza Shop owners.2. Branding of Spaza shops 3. Alternative revenue sources for Spaza shops

Provision of Business Education to Spaza Shop owners :

One of the critical challenges is knowledge and know how of the owners to manage their stores, we propose a basic financial literacy and shop management leaflet and tutelage series provided to the Spaza Shop owners with the view of shifting fundamentally the manor in which they conduct business.

Leaflets to cover topics like: • Stock taking • Cash flow management • Supplier management• Employment of Staff• Staff training• Quarterly Workshops on Business Management(SME)• New Product Activations• Basic Financial Service literacy

Our Solution Branding of Spaza Shops :

The ability to distinguish ones self in this competitive market is central to the success of the Spaza Shop, we propose the branding of the Spaza shops in Africa Bank artwork with the view of creating awareness, professionalism and brand equity. We propose these following options::

1. Full branding and signage of existing Spaza Shop site 2. External branding of existing Spaza Shop site 3. Shop Fitting4. Installation of branded fitted container at new Spaza sites..5. Service and maintenance on a monthly basis of each site.6. Service Level Agreement in place..

Our Solution Alternative Revenue Sources for Spaza Shops: Branding of Spaza Shops in townships isn’t new or very unique but ensuring that there is support for the Shop owners and developing the Spaza Shop into a hub point for activity is potentially a major game changer. We see the Spaza Shops as:

• Activation points for Clients services and products, extensions to the branches • Out of Home media focal point

All these become alternative revenue sources for the Spaza Shop owner.
