8 AP PHYSICS 1 SUMMER ASSIGNMENT NAME__________________________________ DATE_________________________ Welcome to AP Physics 1. AP Physics 1 is an Algebra-based introductory college-level physics course that explores topics such as Newtonian Mechanics (including rotational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits. Through inquiry-based learning, you will develop scientific critical thinking and reasoning skills. Prerequisites: You should have completed geometry and be concurrently taking or have taken Algebra II or some higher level mathematics courses such Pre-Calculus or Calculus at the beginning of this course. Although AP Physics 1 includes basic use of trigonometric functions, this understanding can be gained either in the concurrent math course or in AP Physics 1 itself. No prior course work in physics is necessary. This packet contains some preliminary work that needs to be done before starting the course. Completing the packet will help set you off to a good start in AP Physics 1 and give you an idea of what to expect in the course. You may not know how to do everything on the packet. You may need to other resources, but do your best. Everything in the packet will be covered at some point in the course. This packet will be your first grade in the course and is due on the first day of class, August 26 or August 27, 2014. Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in August.
