AP European History 363 2-16-06 AP EUROPEAN HISTORY COURSE DESCRIPTION SS000001 (1st. Sem.) SS000002 (2nd. Sem.) WG AP EUROPEAN HISTORY (10, 11, 12) 1 Unit, All Year Prerequisite: A 3.5 GPA in Social Studies courses, a raw score of 63 or better on the Degree of Reading Power Test (DRP), teacher or department head recommendation, and parental permission. Should the student fail to meet the criteria, the parents and the student must sign a waiver. NOTE: This course fulfills the World History graduation requirement. This course is designed for the student who is interested in pursuing an advanced level historical perspective of European development from the Renaissance to the present inclusive of the entire chronology of major events and trends. The goals of this course are to develop an understanding of the principal themes in modern European history, an ability to analyze historical evidence, and an ability to express that understanding and analysis in writing. The major themes include intellectual and cultural history, political and diplomatic history, and social and economic history. This course requires a wide variety of intensive readings, classroom presentations, discussion participation, and a summer reading list. The grade for this course is weighted. Students are expected (although not required) to take the Advanced European History Placement Exam.
