AP Biology Summer Assignment Welcome to Advanced Placement Biology! Before the start of the school year in August, you are expected to complete a short three part summer assignment. This summer assignment will help to better prepare you for your coursework in AP Biology. Part I of the summer assignment will allow you to become familiar with common scientific prefixes and suffixes. You will be given a short vocabulary quiz on these prefixes and suffixes the first week of school. Part II of the summer assignment will allow you to explore science in your daily lives. Part III will help you to become familiar with some of the vocabulary you will encounter this year. The summer assignment will be due the first day of school. Part I: The Language of Science You will find a list of scientific prefixes and suffixes below. These Greek and Latin root words are some of the most common ones you will encounter during class this year. Please define these prefixes and suffixes and find a word that they are a part of. Since you are enrolled in an AP science course, I am hoping that you love science!!! For this part of the summer assignment, I would like you to get out of the house and do something involving science. You can go to a science museum, visit a local nature center, go to the beach and observe the ecosystem, go see a science related movie in the theater, grow a plant or start a garden, or come up with your own idea. Write a one page reflection.

Part III: Summer Scavenger Hunt Find the items on the list and take a “selfie” with each item. Create a PowerPoint with your photos. Each photo needs its own slide. Include a description of WHY your photo illustrates the concept. Photos cannot be taken from the internet – you must be in the photo! You cannot repeat photos for multiple scavenger hunt items.
