MEDIA RELEASE June 27, 2016 The Art of Yoga Unveils their First Public Artwork, a Hand Painted Mural by Artist Clint Davidson. Columbus, Ohio, June 22, 2016 – The Art of Yoga, one of the top rated yoga studios in Central Ohio, has teamed up with artist Clint Davidson to offer a public art mural piece on their exterior wall, facing the newly improved West Cherry Street. The work features an inspirational quote, “Aspire to Inspire.” From the day of it’s inception, The Art of Yoga has not only been a dedicated space to practice yoga, but also a place for artists to feature their artwork. Ryan Bauer, the owner of The Art of Yoga, explains the functionality of the art gallery, “The art gallery of the studio has always functioned entirely in favor of the artists, financially speaking. We have never taken a commission or fee from the artists. They display their work at no cost and any sales are given 100% to the artists.” Previous Columbus based artists that have displayed their work inside the studio include: Catherine Bell Smith, Lisa McLymont, Adam Crum, Danielle Poling, and Jamie Sommer, to name just a few. Clint Davidson, a master of murals, branding, illustration, and paintings, was all too excited to team up with The Art of Yoga on this project. In an interview, he said he “was honored and thrilled when Ryan approached me about making a public work! As an art patron he understands the need for public work and contributes to the livelihood of local artists and the art community. Funding and support from patrons is integral to the growth of art and culture in our great city!” Mr. Bauer, on the partnership with artist Clint Davidson, “As a long time patron of art in Central Ohio, I have enjoyed supporting the arts community in Central Ohio. That support has solely been within private exhibits and purchases. For this piece I wanted contribute to art that people could enjoy and visit freely.” He also added that he is “excited for his first public art piece that will be on the building for the entirety of it’s existence.” The mural comes on the heals of the newly transformed West Cherry Street. PlaceMakes (https://placemakes.org/pedestrian-alleys/cherry-street/) has created a ‘pedestrian-preferred’ street and a destination offering a place to meet, relax and enjoy the downtown environment while taking in the activities of the street. Clint Davidson faces the improved streetscape. The Placemakes project is part of a larger, long-term vision guided by the Downtown RiverSouth Public Realm Plan aimed to transform W. Cherry St. into a future destination enjoyed by people. Mr. Bauer hopes that West Cherry Street will develop into an “artist alley way” within the downtown neighborhood. The Art of Yoga’s Aspire to Inspire mural will be something of a dedicated “selfie” spot for people to visit and post photos on social media. As part of the upcoming unveiling, there will be an Instagram contest for the public mural with The Art of Yoga. Visitors are asked to take a “selfie” in front of the mural and tag The Art of Yoga (Instagram @aoy_studios). Doing so will automatically enter participants in a contest to win one year of unlimited yoga at The Art of Yoga. The anticipated unveiling is today, July 27th at the front door of The Art of Yoga.
