Teresa  Orozco  is  a  passionate  classical  and  jazz  flutist  active  as  soloist,  orchestral  player,  recording  artist,  studio  musician,  musical  director  and  founder  of  Ovation  Music  Productions  that  specializes  in  jazz  and  Latin,  Afro-­‐Cuban  music,  and  is  a  member  of  the  salsa  band  Mambo  Tropical  and  Orlando  y  Su  Kumbambe  playing  Romantic  Latin,  salsa,  rhumba  and  Afro-­‐Cuban  music.    She  has  appeared  with  Wayne  Shorter  and  the  Monterey  Jazz  Festival  premiering  Miles  Davis’  Anaconda,  is  currently  flutist  of  the  Monterey  Symphony,  New  Music  Works,  and  has  toured  with  the  San  Francisco  Merola  Western  Opera  and  the  Rome  Festival  Orchestra,  Italy.    Teresa  is  also  an  experienced  educator  who  mentors  young  musicians  and  is  in  her  tenth  season  as  conductor  of  the  Avant  Flute  Choir  of  the  San  José  Youth  Symphony.    She  has  inspired  a  whole  new  generation  of  students  and  has  worked  with  migrant  education  in  Salinas,  teaching  music  appreciation  and  choir.    Currently  she  teaches  at  the  Valley  Christian  Schools  from  the  elementary  to  high  school  level  and  also  has  her  own  private  studio  where  she  is  a  coach  to  some  of  the  most  dedicated,  talented  and  award  winning  college-­‐bound  flutists.

Audition Requirements for SJYCO’s Flute Choir

Any two contrasting pieces should feature selections from slow and fast movements or etudes at the level of:

Anderson op. 15 or op. 63

Music by French Composers (Schirmer)

Mozart Concerto (D or G)

Ibert Concerto

Reinecke Concerto

Prokofiev Sonata (International Edition)

All major scales 2 and 3 octaves (where applicable: C, C#, and D) with arpeggios. Chromatic scale from B1-D4. Sight-reading. Woodwind Quintet audition: requirements by consultation
