Offensive Player of the WeekAlex Heilmann, Cal State FullertonSenior • Forward • La Habra, Calif.

Conference goals co-leader Alex Heilmann helped Cal State Fullerton win twice with a pair of goals, securing his second Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award this season.

The forward netted his ninth and 10th goals of the year to help the Titans topple UC Irvine (3-1) and UC Riverside (1-0). CSF moved into a tie for second place in the South Division with 13 points, just one point from first.

The 10 goals also place him in a tie for first in the Big West alongside UC Santa Barbara’s Kevin Feucht.

Heilmann’s header inside the right post gave the Titans an early 1-0 lead against the Anteaters as he finished the game with three shots, and two on goal.

He collected his third game-winning goal – and third over-all in the last four matches – for the only score in a 1-0 triumph over the Highlanders on Saturday. Heilmann once again struck early as he hit a strike to the far post at the 13:27 mark.

Heilmann also was rewarded as the College Soccer News National Player of the Week for his efforts.

Others nominated: Juan Fernando Samayoa (CSUN); Alex Bettencourt (Sacramento State)

Defensive Player of the WeekJames Del Curto, Sacramento State

Junior • Goalkeeper • Santa Rosa, Calif.

Sacramento State goalkeeper James Del Curto earned his third Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award after helping the Hornets to two wins with a 0.52 goals against average.

Del Curto became just the 10th individual in Big West his-

tory to earn three weekly citations in a season.

He earned a shared shutout in Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Cal Poly. Del Curto made two saves and controlled the box. After leaving the game briefly due to bleeding caused by a cleat to the head, Del Curto returned less than seven minutes later to preserve the clean sheet.

Del Curto then turned away six shots, five on diving stops, to help the Hornets defeat UC Davis, 2-1. He was brilliant on a day the Aggies outshot the Hornets 20-8 overall.

Others nominated: Eric Kam (Cal Poly); Corentin Ohl-mann (Cal State Fullerton); Kevin Marquez (CSUN); Josue Delgado (UC Santa Barbara)

COACHING MOUNTAINTOPThe three winningest head coaches in Big West history are still going strong, leading their respective programs at UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Fullerton and CSUN. Tim Vom Steeg, in his 18th season at UCSB, became the first head coach in Big West his-

tory to accumulate 200 overall wins and 100 conference wins. Since 2001, when the Big West reinstated men’s soccer, Vom Steeg is 220-86-40, with a 109-30-21 mark in league contests. George Kuntz has accumulated a combined 172 wins between two Big West institutions in UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton – the No. 2 win total all-time. His 75 Big West victories is third behind Vom Steeg and CSUN boss Terry Davila, who is 78-54-28 in his 15 seasons as a Big West mentor. Davila is No. 3 all-time in overall wins with 159 behind Vom Steeg and Kuntz.

INTERDIVISIONAL HISTORYSince the Big West moved to interdivisional in play in 2012, the North has held a decided edge over the South, posting a 42-29-9 record. UCSB has owned the most success against its counterparts from the South with a 15-2-3 overall mark, and is unbeaten in its last nine meetings. UC Davis is 11-7-2 all-time in regular season matchups against the South. The only South Division program boasting an above .500 record versus the North is CSUN (9-8-3). However each division accumulated 23 points against the other in this year’s contests.
