Quarterly Review Working for People, Not for Profits. “Your Hometown Credit Union!” April 2020 At Santee Cooper Credit Union, we are excited to celebrate National Credit Union Youth Month. This year's theme is "Money Magic! Share, Spend and Save at Your Credit Union." We want financial education to be fun for youth and the theme of this year's Youth Month teaches kids not only about saving money, but spending and sharing it as well. The theme also introduces 5 characters to help do this: Save, represented by a piggy bank pig named Penelope (Penny for short) who is always dreaming of the future. Spend, represented by a flamingo named Pinky who seizes the day and celebrates life by treating herself from time to time. Share, represented by a unicorn named Hope who spreads joy by helping others. Invest, represented by a bear named Benny who thinks about his future and invests at the credit union. Budget, represented by a penguin named Prudence who pays his bills and keeps a spreadsheet of his expenses and income. Regulation D is a federal regulation that restricts the number of withdrawals from non-transactional accounts (i.e. savings and club accounts). Per the regulation, you are only allowed up to six (6) withdrawals per month from a savings or club account. At Santee Cooper Credit Union, we allow 2 withdrawals per month that are free of charge. After those 2 withdrawals, you may be charged a $2.00 fee per charge that exceeds that amount. For any questions about Regulation D, please feel free to contact either of our branch locations. Please be sure to visit both of our branches during Youth Month where each character will be featured in the lobby. We will have a table set up with free goodies for not only youth, but parents and grandparents as well. Don't forget to open up a Young Savers Account while you are in the branch especially since the Credit Union puts the first $5.00 deposit in the account to get your child or grandchild started. On top of that we also put in an additional $5.00 every year during the child's birth month up until the age of 18. Please note some content about National Credit Union Youth Month is from CUNA.org. Do you have a graduating senior at Berkeley, Timberland or Socastee High School? If so, Santee Cooper Credit Union has a scholarship opportunity. We are awarding (3) $1,000 scholarships to one graduating senior at each school mentioned above. Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria in order to apply: *Has a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.50 *Plans to attend a 2 or 4 year accredited institution, community college, trade school, vocational school or university as a full time student *Must fully complete the Scholarship Application and return to Santee Cooper Credit Union with all required documents by April 20, 2020. *All family members of Santee Cooper Credit Union officials, volunteers and employees are excluded from eligibility. The Annual Meeting was held on February 11, 2020. During the Annual Meeting, elections were conducted for the Board of Directors, Credit Committee and Supervisory Committee. Rosa Lee Deavers, Denny Thompson, Vernon Hardee, Brittany White, Alfred Beaty and Lateshia Spann were all approved by a unanimous decision to serve as a Board or Committee Member. During the meeting our Board Chairman, William Finn, discussed the System Upgrade that took place on February 1, 2020 and touched on the new products and services released with the upgrade. If you would like to pick up a copy of the 2019 Annual Report that was distributed during the Annual Meeting, please feel free to stop by one of our branches.

On February 13, 2020, one of our staff members and Board Chairman participated in the Reality of Money event held at Berkeley High School. This event is an eye opening experience for high school students as they see first hand the importance of having a monthly budget. This was the 3rd year in a row that our Credit Union was able to participate.
