Happy Father’s Day!
My dad, Bill Burke is a very hum-ble, quiet man. He grew up in H aze l wood , a t tend ed S t . Stephen’s Elementary School and graduated from Central Catholic in
1958. After high school he served in the Navy then came home and entered the Pitts-burgh Police Academy. He served as a police officer for thirty years. My dad is a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Happy Father’s Day to all of our fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles or any man who holds father-like role to someone. Let us pray for all of our fathers, liv-ing and deceased, this Father’s Day weekend.
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity, a day we marvel at how fortunate we are to be in a rela-tionship with God.
In the first reading from Proverbs, we read that God’s saving wisdom is apparent in the details of the created world. God the creator brings all things into being through his wisdom like a master craftsman. In the Second Reading from Romans, we read how Paul finds reason to boast of the hardships he must face in God’s service. In the Gospel of John we read how Je-sus promises to send the disciples the spirit of truth who will guide them through the challenges of the fu-ture.
The Trinity is a communion of love: God’s love comes to us from the Father through his Son Jesus, and is communicated to us in the Holy Spirit. We all believe in one God, we believe there are three divine persons. We don’t have to understand everything about him in order to have a personal relationship with each of those three persons of the trinity. Let us reflect on this great mystery and prepare our-selves for next week as we celebrate Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ.
Happy Father’s Day! CCEEP Social Ministry Center It gives me great pleasure to announce the renaming of the St. James Ministry Center to the Social Minis-tries and Community Outreach Center of the Catholic Community of the East End of Pittsburgh. Since we are moving forward on merging into one parish in January 2020, we are combining our resources to serve the needy in our communities of Point Breeze, Homewood-Brushton, Lincoln-Lemington, and Wilkins-burg.
For St. Bede and St. James parishioners, be sure to look in your July offertory envelope packets for a new envelope for “Social Ministries and Community Out-reach.” All of the donations, 100%, will go to fund our Social Ministries Center. We thank you for your gener-osity.
This coming week our Search Committee will be inter-viewing candidates for a new Part Time Coordinator of Social Services and Community Action. This new CCEEP Staff position will start July 1.
Summer Daily Mass Because Fr. James, Fr. Augustine and Fr. Cajetan are traveling most of the summer, we will only have 9 am Daily Mass Monday through Saturday at St. Bede through August. There will be no 8 am daily Mass at St. James or Mother of Good Counsel during the summer.
Summer Church Hours St. Bede Church is open daily for private prayer and meditation, Monday through Friday from 6 am to 3 pm, Saturday am until after the 4 pm Mass and Sunday morning 7 am until after the 11 am Mass. Mother of Good Counsel and St. James Churches are open one hour before Mass and locked after the final Mass on the weekends.
One Year Anniversary This past Tuesday, June 11, marked one year since I arrived as the Administrator of St. Bede. It is has been a true joy to work with Fr. Taylor bringing St. Bede, St. Charles Lwanga and St. James Parishes together. We have made many posi-tive upgrades to all three of our campuses and I am honored to serve you. As we prepare to officially merge into one Parish in January 2020, let us con-tinue walking this journey together to be the Church Alive!

Father Taylor’s Reflection
Blessing ourselves in the name of the
Father Son and Holy Spirit is one of the
most routine prayers we offer as Catho-
lics. It is also how we begin and end our
other prayers and devotions. It is often
referred to as a Christian mystery.
Much of our faith is based upon things we cannot readily see
or prove. This is where trust comes in. We know that life can
and will get better if we just believe. Each day we offer our
most important gifts and talents even when we cannot know
the outcome of them.
One of the most significant challenges that we have over the
next few months is to believe in and trust one another. This is
what formed the early church and it will make us one as well.
We, our people, are called to put our faith in action knowing
that the outcome is always up to the Lord. And this we pray in
the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit

Becoming one... the parishes of St. Bede,
St. Charles Lwanga, and St. James are scheduled to become one parish in January 2020.
Because it is important to be informed, every week there will be information in this column on the process.
One important task will be to submit a petition to Bishop Zubik to merge our parishes into one new par-ish and to provide three recommendations to Bishop Zubik for a name for our new parish.
To reach that point, in July and August, our parish ad-visory councils will meet and assist our clergy team and staff, and inform and engage parishioners in the merger process.
In September there will be a series of parish assem-blies to explain how we will merge our parishes into one and to recommend three names for our new par-ish.
In October, all the required documentation for the merger of our parishes, including our petition to Bishop Zubik and our recommendation of three names will be submitted.
And then we plan for the beginning of our new parish.
Please continue to pray for the success of our merger process and most importantly, for the ongoing growth in our faith in the Lord and our love for each other.

THIS IS THE HOLY TRINITY
Today we celebrate the Holy Trinity, one of the most confounding mysteries of our faith. Through this mys-tery we experience our relationship to God: Creator, Savior, and Holy Spirit. This relationship is not easy to understand or to describe. It does not become clearer through analysis. Its complexity mirrors the complexity of all our relationships. We understand our relation-ships with our spouses, our children, our parents, and our friends only through daily give-and-take, annual rituals, and the life-changing moments we share. We understand our relationships only as we live them. The relationships we have with those we love, and who love us, sustain us through an uncertain and difficult life. This is the Holy Trinity.
What is striking about today's readings is that each is incomplete. What they do offer is a description of a mo-ment in our relationship, a memory of a time and an event when our relationship made sense even though that sense may be beyond our ability to describe fully. Often that is all that our faith offers, that is, a memory of what is possible, what is promised, what has been given. A memory of eternity, of love beyond under-standing is to be cherished and nurtured even if not fully understood. This is the Holy Trinity.

Juneteenth Observance On Saturday, June 29, at
10 am there will be an Ecumenical Program to com-memorate the end of slavery on June 19,1865 in Texas and more generally the emancipation of en-slaved African Americans throughout the former Con-federate States of America. The observance will begin at Freedom Corner in the Hill District, followed by a parade to Point State Park where there will be speak-ers on the topics of the end of slavery, voting rights and community cohesion. Fr. David Taylor will repre-sent Bishop Zubik.

Children’s Liturgy of The Word is a way for
young children to hear the readings in a way that is meaningful to them, and to talk about the scriptures, appropriate to their age and developmental abilities.
St. Bede’s Children's Liturgy will resume in early Sep-tember 2019. St. James Children’s Liturgy will con-tinue through the summer at the 10 am Mass.
As we continue to grow more vigorously into one Catholic community in the East End of Pittsburgh, we expect to more effectively collaborate and support one another in this important ministry for young chil-dren and their families.

Health Ministry Healthcare providers are invited
to share their skills and talents in this ministry. The team provides blood pressure screening and needed consultations to parishioners on the last weekend of the month at St. James and to Food Bank clients on the third Saturday of the month. Health education through the bulletin board in church along with hand-outs, CPR training and flu shots, when available, are also provided by this ministry. Non-healthcare provid-ers are welcome to join this ministry.
Lectors are needed to proclaim the Word at the 4
pm Mass at St. James. We invite you to prayerfully discern if you are called to this ministry.
Sacristans: There is a sacristan position open for
the 1st Sunday of the month and two sacristans are needed for the 5th Sunday of the month at St. James. Training will be provided.

CCEEP is hosting a Com-munity Blood Drive at two lo-
cations this summer on Sunday, July 21, in the Activities Room at St. Bede’s and in the Chapel at St. James. Infor-mation and sign up sheets for appoint-
ments to give blood will be available at all three cam-puses. Please mark the date on your calendar and consider becoming a blood donor on that day.
