Pastor’s Note
Hail To The King!
This weekend we celebrate the So-lemnity of Christ the King. This so-lemnity was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, an observance celebrating an aspect of Jesus’ identity rather than of his life. The
readings this weekend use images of God and Christ as shepherd and King of all creation.
In our first reading from the Book of Samuel, we read how all the tribes of Israel come to David. They know without a doubt that God has chosen him to be their King and shepherd. Dave was anointed to succeed Saul as king and lead them out to battle and bring them back in triumph. In the Second Reading from Paul to the Colos-sians we read how Paul gives thanks for the gift of salva-tion and offers a hymn of praise to the Lord.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus is mocked by the rulers and soldiers and a crucified criminal. They taunt him and re-fer him as the “King of the Jews.”
On this final day of the Liturgical Year, and prepare for the month of December and the Season of Advent, and also the final five weeks before we officially merge into one Catholic Parish family, let us use our Baptismal call-ing and gifts to continue building his kingdom here on earth. Our King of the Universe feeds us with his body, blood, soul, and divinity.
Hail To The King! 2020 Mass Intentions This year because of the merger we will open our books for 2020 Mass Intentions next weekend: Saturday, November 30, from 5 pm to 7pm, and Sunday, December 1, from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm in the St. Bede Activity Room. We have a special flyer available to make reservations for one Daily and one Sunday Mass (per family) at all three of our campuses. Please be pa-tient with this new sign up system. We appreciate your understanding.

Father Taylor’s Reflection
Dying he destroyed our death. Rising he restored our life. We may look at today's gospel and think hey, this is a reading for Holy Week or Good Friday, certainly not for Christ the King. But it is for a pur-pose. Our world emphasizes power and authority, not weakness. But scripture
reminds us that the most powerful events can be done when we feel powerless. We can truly look beyond these seemingly real contradictions. Jesus was indeed the Mes-siah who in the very act of dying, conquered death itself
It is meaningful on this last week of the church year that we focus on leadership and what power and authority is sup-posed to be. This awesome sign, the cross, is the center-piece of all of our churches, reinforcing what the Eucharist is really all about. Yes, real power and authority always start with the cross.
Next week we begin Advent and a new year of the church. It is indeed a hallmark time for us as we look forward to a new church year as well as the new parish.
This weekend we celebrate the 150th anniversary of St. James Parish. The great history of this parish will add much to our new Faith Community in the East End.
As I look back on my 45 years as a priest and my birthday tomorrow, I can truly acknowledge that the road has been tough, but my Ministry has been so rewarding. My late fa-ther and mother as well as all of my siblings, 6 of them, help to make it all possible and what a joy to continue Ministry with all of you
Let's move ahead knowing that we do not have to doubt how it will be when we celebrate Thanksgiving this week with family and friends. We have so much to be grateful and thankful about and it all started with the cross.

Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse
to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.

Thanksgiving Day Mass St. James at 9 am
On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, at 9 am, CCEEP will gather together to thank God for his many blessings. We will come together to sing, to listen to the Word, and celebrate Eucharist. We will also remember those in need by collecting nonperishable food items to be pre-sented with the gifts. It will be a nice way to begin your family’s observance of the holiday. After Mass, be sure to take home an item from the altar decorations for you holiday meal.
As we will soon become one parish family, what a great day it is to come together and break bread as one.

Congratulations to St. James Parish on its 150
th Anniversary
On November 18, 1869, the consecration Mass was held for the first church of St. James Parish. This church stood on Franklin Avenue where the school’s new wing stands today.
This Eucharist marked the beginning of St. James Parish and the 150 year mission of serving Jesus Christ in Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs. This mission continues to this day at St. James.
As we move into the future as a new parish and with a new name, let us continue
our faith journey together, welcoming one another and growing from all our traditions!

Angel/Magi Tree Project Our parish Angel/
Magi Trees are now set up at each of our worship sites. Please feel free to take an angel or tag and provide a gift for someone less fortunate this Christ-mas. Last year we provided close to 500 gifts for those in
need. Don't forget to register your selection before you leave by filling out the tag and leaving it in the box pro-vided. This is the only way we have to keep track of the gifts. Pay special attention to the tags this year. A num-ber of them have special instructions from the agencies we are working with. Some of the tags are color-coded according to price range while others require you to search your hearts as to what you would like to spend.
During the week, please do not leave any gifts in the church. Take them to the rectory or Ministry Cen-ter. All gifts must be returned to the church by Sunday,
December 1. Blessings to all of you for your generos-ity!

CCEEP Social Ministries Giving thanks...it
is hard to calculate the number of hours that volun-teers give to all the efforts of the programs of the so-cial ministry, but it easily is in the thousands! The food banks, Mary's Child, health ministry, community out-reach, letter writing, Angel/Magi Tree, and all the other efforts to help our neighbors in need have been sus-tained by lots of hard work and dedication of volun-teers across the parishes. We have a vibrant commu-nity that puts faith in action every day of the year, something to be very thankful for!!!!
Amen to Action! For the third year, we are
coming together on the day after Thanksgiving to sing, pray, celebrate and pack one million Meals of Hope for the hungry on Friday, November 29, 9 am to 12:30 pm at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This is a great way to spend the day after Thanksgiving... with family and friends.

Dear CCEEP Parishioners:
The 8th grade girls are conducting a WARM CLOTH-ING DRIVE to benefit Mary’s Child at St. James Minis-tries.
Many of our neighbors do not have all the extras that we have and struggle even to stay warm in the winter months. When we visit St. James in December for our service trip, we would like to fill up their chests and closets with warm clothing for all our less fortunate friends and neighbors.
We are collecting all forms of new or gently used warm clothing such as sweaters, vests, warm pants, winter hats, scarves, mittens and winter boots for men, women, children and infants.
Our drive will take place starting Wednesday, No-vember 13 and ends on Tuesday, December 3. Anything you can share with our neighbors who need our help would be appreciated! You can drop off all donations in the St. Bede School's main office.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Most sincerely,
The 8th Grade Girls
50% percent of BBE congregations serve children who live in these neighborhoods and towns: Home-wood, Wilkinsburg, North Side, Donora and the rural community of Imler in Blair County. In addition, the Catholic Community of the East End sponsors Somali refugees with children; and Lincoln Place Church of the Nazarene sponsors Sudanese refugees with chil-dren. Their early childhood, out-of-school, youth and Sunday school programs need the following either for use in their programs or as Christmas gifts for children from their congregations who are less fortunate:
#2 pencils; colored pencils; pens; packs of loose leaf paper, 3-punch-hole; crayons; washable markers;
story books, preschool and elementary; winter hats (beanies) children and youth, any colors; one size fits
all good too; gloves children and youth, any colors; tee shirts, all sizes, child through adult extra large.
Blessed Be Educators would like to receive all dona-tions by Monday, December 2, for early December distribution and may be dropped off at Sr. Thea Bow-man Catholic Academy.
Special thanks for your interest and possible dona-tions. Please contact Dr. Mary Ann Hvizdos, Program Director, if you have questions, 412.807.1611 or [email protected]
