1 “The Time of Loaves and Fishes” Rev. David Gregory August 2, 2020 Pentecost 9 Readings Matthew 14:19-20 New Revised Standard Version Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled. Loaves and Fishes David Whyte This is not the age of information. This is not the age of information. Forget the news, and the radio, and the blurred screen. This is the time of loaves and fishes. People are hungry, and one good word is bread for a thousand. We are grateful to our Governing Board and to all the friends and participants who make our work at CCC possible. The pandemic has certainly tested our resolve as well as our ability to function and grow as a spiritual community. What we are finding is that our mission is more important than ever, and it’s driven by a deep hunger for “Good News,” which is the simple and accurate meaning of the word “Gospel.” We exist in the world to bring this gospel—this good news—to you, and to make certain that it does not get drowned out by all the expressions of fear and hatred that seem to prevail in our daily headlines. This is not meant as a denial of what is happening around us, but rather just a willingness to place our attention, energy, and focus on other things that are helpful, life-giving and loving. If we can plant some seeds of good news at least one day a week, perhaps they can take root and produce a bountiful harvest of grace and justice on all of the other days. This is our work. This is our dream. This is our calling. Loaves and Fishes Graham Braddock
