F or anyone who celebrates Christmas, the
first thing many would like to say is
“Happy birthday, Jesus!”
But believe it or not, there is widespread
speculation that Jesus was actually born in
August. With that said, how many people do
you know who were born on December 25? Not
many, right?
Well, since there are many more people on
the planet than there are days in the year,
there’s no reason why someone can’t be born on
December 25. Here are five famous figures that
were all born on Christmas Day, along with the
day of the week on which each person was
born.
Clara Barton (Tuesday, December 25,
1821). Perhaps the most famous female figure
of the Civil War, Clara Barton founded the
American Red Cross in 1881 and served as that
organization’s first president. During the Civil
War, she served as an independent nurse and
cared for soldiers wounded at Fredericksburg,
Virginia and Antietam, Maryland. Barton’s
work in nursing during the war earned her the
nickname “the angel of the battlefield.” Later,
as president of the American Red Cross, she
oversaw assistance and relief work for the
victims of the 1889 Johnstown Flood.
Humphrey Bogart (Monday, December
25, 1899). Humphrey Bogart is best known for
his role as Rick Blaine in the movie
Casablanca,
which won
the Oscar for
Best Picture
in 1943. His
most famous
quote occurs
at the end of
Casablanca,
when he
says, “I
think this is
the
beginning of
a beautiful
friendship.”
Bogart’s most celebrated
performance after
Casablanca was the 1951 film The African
Queen, in which he co-starred with Katharine
Hepburn and for which he won his first and
only Academy Award for Best Actor.
Conrad Hilton (Sunday, December 25,
1887). When was the last time you stayed in a
Hilton Hotel? Well, the hotel business as we
know it today would never have come to
fruition had it not been for Conrad Hilton.
Hilton believed that every hotel should be built
in its own unique style, rather than as part of a
chain. After founding the Hilton Corporation in

T he winter is a time of midterms for some,
finals for others, and most highly would be
the celebrations!
We study hard, eagerly awaiting the payoff it
will bring with the vacations and holiday
celebrations with our friends and loved ones. All
around the world we find different festivities and
traditions followed, either out of religion or
family customs, it’s a joyous time of
remembrance, laughter, and coming close to the
ones you care for, according to unitedplanet.org.
Most commonly known and participated in
would be Christmas. On December 25th, is a
holiday called Christmas, which derives from the
literal meaning of “Christ’s Mass”. It’s a day of
remembrance of the birth of Jesus Christ, and
though the actual date of the birth is unknown,
it’s still widely recognized as the actual date.
However, a day that was once for the sole
purpose of remembering the start of an
important life, it has turned more towards a
commercialized affair of gifts, Christmas lights,
and Santa’s cookies. No matter how you
celebrate this holiday, it is a happy time for the
whole month.
Another holiday is Hanukkah, or as some call
it Chanukah. This is an eight-day, Jewish
celebration of rededication Holy Temple in
Jerusalem after the Maccabean Revolt (second
century BCE). Hanukkah rituals include the
lighting of the Menorah, which consists of nine
candles in a holder. One candle is lit on each of
the eight nights of Hanukkah, and the center
candle is used for lighting the others. Other
Hanukkah family customs include singing
Hanukkah songs, reciting Psalms, and,

Fool For Love By K25 “I’25” P9_51
I don’t want to be a fool for him, who
is making a fool of himself.
Taking my sweetness for weakness.
Faking his sweetness that’s making
me weak.
Messing my dreams up with his
image; my dreams, now in it, is his
presence, yet s,ll I don’t wana sleep.
I allow him to make a fool of me; I
know this isn’t love but will he ever
love me?
He paints a picture and damn! It’s
lovely
But the portrayal of his perfect work
of art lacks consistency.
My emo,on is doing it again.
Le7ng my guards down, the cage
that protects my heart from the
heartless who wants to tear it apart
regardless
Of my sincerity, my dignity.
Boy please! Stop messing with me.
Don’t do this if doing it ain’t
something you want to do
Or is it that you just doing what you
doing so you can do me,
that, then do me wrong and do over
with me.
Lies linger in your truth
Stop! Cease from making a fool of
yourself!
Cause I don’t want to be a fool for
you.
Or am I the fool, making myself a fool
When your words are nothing but
truth and I fail to believe in you.
I am sorry.
For being in and out of it, causing all
this confusion
It’s my emo, ons, running wild again,
sensing illusions.
Now I feel as if I’m all responsible.
That, I should be.
I need to take control of my thoughts
and my feelings before you take
control of me.
I am the fool. I’m sorry. Join The Campus Press. Blackwood, Camden City, Cherry Hill. E-mail: [email protected].

Anwar el-Sadat (Wednesday,

could have been nicknamed the
“George Washington of Egypt,” as
he was one of Egypt’s greatest
military leaders. Anwar el-Sadat is
credited for his role in the Camp
David Accords, where he took the
first steps toward a permanent
peace agreement between Egypt
and Israel. His partners in this
agreement were U.S. President
Jimmy Carter and Israeli Prime
Minister Menachem Begin. The
Camp David Accords earned both
Sadat and Begin the Nobel Peace

untimely assassination in 1981
destroyed any hopes for
permanent peace between Israel
and Egypt.
Karl Rove (Monday, December

And next we have
Kwanzaa. This holiday to
celebrate family, community
and culture is observed
throughout different areas of
Canada and the United
States, as well as in the
Western African Diaspora to honor African
heritage primarily by African-Americans. In
1966, this holiday was created by Dr. Maulana

During Kwanzaa, a principle or value is
focused upon for each of the seven days:
(Swahili and English): (Umoja) unity,
(Kujichagulia) self-determination,
(Ujima) collective work and
responsibility, (Ujamaa) cooperative
economics, (Nia) purpose, (Kuumba)
creativity, and (Imani) faith.
