wish you a blessed Christmas!

Please note that the office will be closed on Monday, December 26th.

THE GIFT OF GOD’S WORD

On this day of gifts and gift‑giving, it seems appropriate that we take a moment to reflect on the great gift of God’s Word. Because it is creative, God’s Word always points to its author, always calls us to respond. Because it is power-ful, God’s Word can link the sublime with the ridiculous, the transcendent with the immanent, the divine with the human. Because it is graceful, God’s Word establishes a relationship of deep intimacy between us and God.

Once accepted and opened, the gift of God’s Word is a gift that keeps on giving and keeps on calling us to give in return. It dares us to be like the gift‑giver and to become gifts for others, not only at Christmas, but at every moment of life.

HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION

Dear Lord, Hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.

Remember Those Far From Home LCpl. Elijah Burgins Po3. John Castro Lt. Eric Infante Pvt. Peter Eck

Sgt. Scott Majewski Afc. Jeremy McNeel Pfc. Joseph Pusateri Theodore Soupart

Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

Today we celebrate the feast of Christmas and hear how the shepherds found Mary and Joseph and the infant lying in the manger. Then they left glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen.

Your gifts to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul helped those who are poor and suffering to find Emmanuel and they also came to know that “God is with us.”

The members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society wish you a Very Merry Christmas!

CHURCH BELLS TO RING IN MOUNT PROSPECT CENTENNIAL

Church bells at St. Paul Lutheran and St. Raymond and St. Cecilia Catholic Churches will “ring in” the Centennial year of 2017 at the stroke of midnight on December 31, at the request of the Centennial Commission. “It seems only fitting that the three churches in town that still have bells, ring them to announce and herald the official start of Mount Prospect’s anniversary year. We thank residents, in advance, for their understanding and support for this once-in-a-lifetime ‘beautiful noise’ at midnight,” stated Jean Murphy, Centennial Co-chair.

The official anniversary weekend -- with a host of activities including fireworks and the Celestial Celebration dinner dance -- will be held the weekend of February 3 and 4 and then further events will be held throughout 2017. To keep abreast of Centennial activities, periodically visit www.mountprospect100.com.
