DESCRIPTION

The multilayer system can now be used for gas distribution.

The UNI / TS 11343 and UNI 11344 Standards published on the 10th December 2009, allow installers to use multilayer pipes and relative fittings for mains gas and LPG supply systems for domestic use.

In detail, the Standard UNI 11344 specifies the characteristics of the multilayer pipes and fittings suitable for the installation of

internal systems for the transport of gaseous fuels of I, II and

III family according to UNI EN 437, powered by distribution networks with maximum operating pressure of 0.5 bar and operating temperature from -20°C to 70°C. RBM Tita-gas is a complete and guaranteed system, manufactured in compliance with the specifications of the standards, and can be used both in the civil and industrial sector. RBM Tita-gas summarises the best tradition of reliability and strength of metal pipes and the ease of installation of the plastic tubes, eliminating, in the meantime, the defects that are characteristic of each of these types of products.

The main advantages of the RBM Tita-gas system, are:

Quick installations

- It can be cold shaped by hand with very narrow curvature radii without deforming the section

- It is light and robust (the aluminium core makes the pipe resistant to treading and to accidental impacts)

It does not alter the shape of the profile: it is possible, in different places from the site, to pre-build entire parts of system, with relative end fittings.

Reduced elongation The thermal expansion is very similar to

that of the metal piping, i.e. about 1/4÷1/8 of the plastic piping.

Resistance to corrosion and chemical agentsThe inner layer of polyethylene has an extremely smooth surface that gives the pipe:

- A good resistance to the aggression of chemical agents, acids and basics;

- An effective protection of the aluminium core against chemical or natural corrosion .

Moreover, the particular shape of the fittings used, isolating the metal core, eliminates the risk of electrochemical corrosion.

Impermeability to oxygenThe intermediate aluminium layer makes the product entirely impermeable to oxygen, gas and water vapour.

Impermeability of the internal layer to U.V. rays The polyethylene inner layer is protected by the aluminium layer that prevents its progressive degradation for damage caused by any exposure to UV rays.

ATTENTION: The pipe is supplied in packaging to protect it during storage.

The polyethylene forming the outer layer of the pipe, is a material that must not be exposed to direct sunlight, as it has a low resistance to UV rays.

DESCRIPTION

The RBM Tita-gas multilayer pipe with protective conduit, adds to the properties of the RBM Tita-gas multilayer pipe with the presence of an external protective conduit. This protective conduit, made with LDPE polyethylene, which does not alter the chemical-physical features of the pipe, makes itsuitable for implementing buried distribution systems. If laying pipes in walls that contain small cavities (e.g. hollow bricks) Standard UNI / TS 11343 provides that the piping is inserted in a

protective conduit to prevent any gas leakage into the cavity. For further specifications, refer to the section "How to install fittings and pipes that make up the internal system" in this technical data sheet. The external conduit is yellow. The pipe characteristics are the same as those illustrated for the RBM Tita-gas multilayer pipe.

ADDITIONAL FITTINGS

PREPARING THE PIPE FOR THE CHOSEN FITTING

Before installing any type of fitting on RBM Tita-gas multilayer pipe, it is necessary and essential to prepare the multilayer pipe for the fitting. The multilayer pipe preparation to the fitting is mandatory in order to avoid malfunctioning of the pipe-fitting system during its use.

RBM S.p.A. is not liable for damage caused by commissioning and maintenance errors, failure to comply with

these instructions and improper use of the system: the use of the multilayer pipe for purposes other than those

specified in this manual is strictly forbidden.

METHODS OF PREPARATION

Below is the description of the operations to be carried out for a correct and accurate preparation of the pipe to the fitting:

Cut the multilayer pipe using the specific cutter (code 553.00.X2) which allows a clean cut from burrs and a cut perpendicular to the axis of the pipe (FIG. 1). Any inaccuracies in perpendicularity of the cut, can be remedied during the flaring operation carried out by means of the calibrator / flaring tool (FIG.2);

Flare and calibrate the pipe using the specific RBM calibrator / flaring tool. Move the tool until it reaches the end of the pipe and carry out the calibration and flaring. This operation can be carried out: - Manually, with the specific handle (FIG. 2);

- With the use of the wireless portable drill (FIG. 3). Use of the portable drill is strongly recommended to better and quickly prepare the pipe.

NB Pipe calibration and flaring is mandatory since it makes it possible to insert the fitting without deforming or

cutting the O-Ring, unique sealing element between the fitting and the pipe.

FIG. 1

FIG. 2

FIG. 3

FIG. 4

The calibrated and flared multilayer pipe (FIG. 4), is now ready to be connected to the fitting.

Any bending of the pipes must be carried out with special manual pipe bender spring or pipe bending kit, to avoid crushing or breakages. The minimum bending radius must be greater than 5 times the diameter of the pipe.

IT IS FORBIDDEN TO: - use fittings that are visibly damaged or not properly stored; - use tools and / or clamps different from those specified above. - use different pipes to those indicated by the system manufacturer. - tamper with or replace the sealing gasket.

FITTINGS

PRESS-FITTINGS

Use of the press fittings simplifies the connection operations of the multilayer pipe. Connection is fast and clean thanks to the total absence of sealing materials, pastes and liquid lubricants. The mechanical seal is obtained with the deformation of the stainless steel bushing by pressing with the specific tool. The extraction pressure exceeds by far the operating pressure of the multilayer pipe. The insulation cap is transparent and makes it possible to verify the exact insertion of the pipe into the fitting. N.B. : For a correct connection, the pipe must be inserted up to the edge of the insulation cap.

3 EASY STEPS

FOR THE ASSEMBLY OF THE FITTING

Cut the multilayer pipe using the

specific tool, which allows a clean cut without burrs and

perpendicular to the axis of the pipe

Deburring and calibration of the pipe

cut using the specific tool. Rotate the gauge until the

chamfering area is reached.

Pipe insertion in the fitting up to the stop

cap and subsequent pressing of the

bushing using the

INSTALLATION CRITERIA OF THE METAL-PLASTIC MULTILAYER PIPE SYSTEM

The document contains general information that is useful for the installer for the implementation of indoor systems with single nominal thermal capacity not greater than 35 Kw, starting downstream of the gas point of delivery (point where the gas ownership transfers from the distributing company to the user) up to the inlet connection of the equipment.

Multilayer pipe system means a set of products provided by the manufacturer of the system that comprises pipes, fittings,

clamps and all tools required for assembly and installation of the same.

WARNINGS: The instructions are intended for specialist and qualified personnel. An incorrect installation can cause damage to persons, animals or things: the manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by installation errors, by failure to comply with these instructions and improper use of the product. Before using the product, carefully read the information contained therein, because they provide important information regarding the safety of installation and use. It is forbidden to use the product for purposes other than those specified.

The information below is of a general character, for further details relating to installation, refer to that indicated in the technical

standard UNI / TS 11343 and UNI 7129 . For further technical specifications / instructions, please refer to what is indicated on the website www.rbm.eu

LAYOUT OF MEASUREMENT AND CONNECTION UNIT TO THE GAS SYSTEM, MADE WITH MULTILAYER PIPE

INSTALLATION CRITERIA FOR FITTINGS AND PIPES FORMING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM

Fitting installation:

The gas fittings can be buried or concealed, as long as they are respectively entered in the suitable inspectable pit complying with

the area of installation (UNI EN 124) suitable to allow a correct handling of the equipment, or inspection box with cover not sealed but with suitable protection from UV rays and in adequately ventilated environments.

The cocks installed overground (included the cases in pits and installation on sight), can be made in brass, bronze, steel or ductile cast iron, in compliance with Standard UNI EN 331.

Piping installation:

The multilayer pipe CANNOT be installed in "VIEW", also installation is preferable outside the building, restricting as much as possible the path inside the premises with the following methods:

Outside the building: - buried - in appropriately realised structures (channels), properly protected against UV rays and against mechanical damage.

Inside the building: - concealed only inside buildings (flat) - in appropriate realised structures in walls of the internal parts (stairs, entrance hall, etc.)

BURIED INSTALLATIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE EXTERNAL WALLS OF THE BUILDING

LAYOUT OF MEASUREMENT AND CONNECTION UNIT TO THE GAS SYSTEM CONNECTED TO A DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

Key:

1. Counter/meter input shut-off valve (responsibility of the manufacturer)

2. Counter input stem

3. Counter / meter

4. Counter / meter pressure socket; it can also be provided in the inlet shut-off valve (1), or directly into the fastening shelf or output stem

5. Start point and shut-off valve with manometric socket (responsibility of the customer)

6. Pressure socket with cap; not necessary if already present directly in the shut-off valve (5) (responsibility of the customer)

7. Output stem

8. Counter/meter fixing shelf

9. Gas pipe

N.B.: It is recommended that the internal systems be equipped with a pressure socket easily accessible, to be used only by the user. The pressure socket must be installed downstream of the cut-off valve that determines the starting point, may be included in the shut-off valve itself.

INSTALLATION OF THE PIPING CONCEALED OUSIDE THE BUILDING UNIT (BURIED PIPES) :

The buried piping must be installed according to that indicated in the diagrams below.

Warnings: - The sand that constitutes the installation bed to the piping must have granulometry not greater than 2.5 mm - The warning barrier tape must be yellow (RAL 1003).

The burying depth of the pipe measured from the upper end of the pipe and the ground level, must be equal to at least 600 mm.

In cases in which this depth cannot be respected, provide adequate mechanical protection of the pipe with specially designed structure or metal conduit pipe. See the diagrams below.

Use of the multilayer pipe to implement the entire gas system, exempts the installer from the obligation to use the dielectric

joint!

CROSSING OF EXTERNAL PERIMETER WALLS WITH CAVITY, HOLLOW BRICKS FULL BRICKS AND PREFABRICATED

PANELS:

Note that after the pipe comes out from the ground, when laid outside the building, it must be inserted in a special channel. The channel has the function of protecting, during the external path, the piping from UV rays and mechanical damage. You are allowed to use a grilled or closed channel, as long as it is equipped with openings at the ends for ventilation.

Perimeter walls with air cavity.

Perimeter walls without cavity. The cavities between conduit pipe and gas pipe must be sealed, in the inner part of the room, with appropriate materials, e.g. plastic concrete and similar, silicone.

CROSSING OF SLABS:

The upstream and downstream part of the crossing in the conduit pipe, if outside the building,

must be inserted in the channels, while if inside the building, it must be installed concealed. N.B. The metal conduit must exit at least 20 mm from the floor wire.

The metal through conduit must have a minimum thickness of 2 mm and internal diameter 10 mm greater than the external

diameter of the gas pipe.

There must be no joint inside the metal conduits.

The cavities between the conduit pipe and gas pipe must be sealed with appropriate materials, e.g. plastic concrete and similar, silicone.

INDOOR CONCEALED INSTALLATIONS:

Concealed pipes can be installed in masonry structures (in floors, walls, partitions, fixed perimeter, in the attic, etc.), as long as they are placed in a straight, vertical and horizontal line.

The curvature of the pipes must be carried out with the specific pipe bending spring, in order to avoid crushing or breakages.

The minimum bending radius must be 5 times greater than the diameter of the pipe.

The piping MUST BE laid at a distance 200 mm from the edges parallel to the pipe.

The concealed pipe must be immersed in cement mortar at least 20 mm thick, even in the presence of the conduit.

In the case of installation in walls that are not full (e.g. hollow brick), these must be mandatorily inserted in a protective conduit. The special RBM conduit mechanically protects the gas pipe and directs any gas leaks to the outside or in aired rooms, thanks to the air chamber inside the section of the conduit itself.

MECHANICAL AND SEAL TEST OF THE INTERNAL SYSTEM:

The mechanical test of the internal system must be carried out with minimum pressure of 5 bar, while the system leak test must be

carried out in accordance with UNI 7129.

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND CHECK OF THE SYSTEMS:

For the frequency of checks and maintenance and for the procedures to be implemented, please refer to the information provided by

the laws and / or standards in force, in particular UNI 11137-1
