A Message from Fr. Peter, Deacon Alejandro, Deacon Paul, Susan McLeod and the SBSCC Team:

As residents of Massachusetts are aware, Governor Baker, Mayor Walsh, & Cardinal Sean have all announced that as part of Phase One of the gradual reopening of Massa-chusetts, houses of worship are being permitted to open under highly restricted guide-lines. At the time of this writing, the Archdiocese of Boston has invited the pastors and admin-istrators to begin the process of reopening. This reopening is to take place after careful and deliberate preparation. Furthermore, it is not an instantaneous process. Collabora-tives and parishes are to request permission from the Regional Bishop to resume public Masses, after ensuring the parishes have undertaken numerous precautions to ensure the safety of parishioners. While it was announced that parishes could resume public Masses as early as Satur-day evening, May 23rd., out of a commitment to caution, we have decided to not make this request just yet. The South Boston-Seaport Catholic Collaborative has a little bit of work to do before we can realistically ensure the safety of its people. On the next page, in the spirit of full transparency, the safety requirements are listed for your information. We hope to resume public Masses soon. But since we are required to meet all State, Mu-nicipal, and Archdiocesan guidelines, we want to move at a deliberate pace in order to feel confident that we are not compromising the health and safety of our staff, our parish-ioners, or our neighbors. We are seeking input from Parish Pastoral Council members this week as we determine the best course of action in light of our commitment to providing a safe environment and implementing a well thought out plan. We will keep you informed every step of the way. Thank you for your patience and trust as we attempt to deal with these unprecedented challenges in the most prudent ways possible. We hope that you find comfort in knowing that our online Sunday Mass will continue at 10:00 via Facebook and YouTube and we encourage you to join us from the safety of your home for the next several weeks. May God continue to bless, guide & protect you all!

WHAT WE WILL NEED TO HAVE IN PLACE TO RESUME PUBLIC WORSHIP SERVICES

(sidebars courtesy of Rev. Paul Soper) • Sign-ups in advance of Mass. (1) Because of the space limitations required

by social distancing plus the rule lim-

iting total number of people to no more than 40% capacity. (2) Because of the possible need for contact trac-ing. Contact tracing is a serious way of curtailing a future outbreak so it is taken quite seriously at this stage of re-opening. In the event of future out-breaks there could be a need for con-tact tracing. As people contact us to pre-register for Mass we can attempt to ensure we do not go over capacity. Walk-Ins are permitted not to exceed

church’s capacity. But these people would be asked for their names and contact information for reason #2 stated above.

• Within the church, social distancing must be main-tained: people must be 6’ minimum apart from one another. Couples, and parents with their children are the exceptions.

• Everyone older than five must wear a mask over their nose and mouth. • Everyone older than five must wear gloves. • Children three to five —masks and gloves are optional. • Children two years and less—masks are prohibited due to safety concerns (the potential of asphyxiation.) • We must take the steps of marking pews with painter’s tape, designating where people can sit.

***In light of the above, we need to ensure we have extra masks, gloves, & hand-sanitizer***

Sanitizing• We need to use biocidal/viricidal cleanser prior to resumption of

worship and then between every Mass/liturgy. Restrooms must also be sanitized after each Mass. No Paper in Pews •All paper song sheets and missalettes and booklets need to be thrown out or stored away. • Bul-

letins could be printed but...these cannot be left out.• Bulletins are ideally online but if the parish decides hard copies are needed, these could be handed out by a gloved volunteer as people exit the church.

Communion Guidelines • No Precious Blood. Body of Christ only. • Consecrated hosts are dropped into the hands of the parishioners by the priest, deacon, or lay minister. • “Purell” readily available for usage whenever the minister of communion accidentally touches a person’s hand. • People must space 6 feet apart. They must walk back down to their pews using side aisles. • It is permissible to decide for safety reasons to bring communion to the people in the pews.

Offertory• The offertory collection will not take place during the Mass at the usual time,

or manner.

Lectors & Choir• Lectors go to the ambo/lectern from the congregation and return

to the congregation. • Only one cantor and one musician is permitted. They must be distanced from each other. • No choirs during phase one. Summary of what we need to re-open the church. • A cadre of well-trained volunteers. These volunteers cannot be people from vulnerable populations, for their own health and safety. • Either volunteers or paid personnel to perform the cleaning/sanitization required.•
