ACTIVITIES&READINGSTHISWEEK
OUR MONTHLY PARISH FOOD DRIVE is on the 3rd Sunday of every month. On the weekend of August 20th and 21st, please bring new non-perishables which have not reached their expiration date. This benefits those most needy in our community.
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Last Sunday’s “Parable of the rich fool” delivered a compelling reason to do the right thing—now: “You
fool, this night your life will be demanded of you” (Luke 12:20). Today, Jesus warns us: “You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come” (12:40). Though we do not know when our Master will come, we do know what our Master expects to find. Jesus expects us to
be vigilant (12:37) and diligent (12:42) in our work for the kingdom, but also filled with reverent mercy
toward our fellow servants and ourselves. Hopefully, Jesus’ warning not to get drunk and beat each other up (12:45) does not apply to us literally! But what changes do I need to make, right now, so that the
many people outside “the Master’s house” will want to come inside to experience the healing comfort of
Jesus’ own mercy in the compassion of Jesus’ modern-day disciples?
DO YOU WANT TO DEEPEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD AND
ENHANCE YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF OUR CATHOLIC FAITH?
Join us here at St. James for a spiritual growth and education opportunity with Bishop Robert Barron and his much acclaimed 10 part DVD series entitled: Catholicism We are meeting for 6 more consecutive Tuesdays (9am & 7pm) in the St. James Room. Presented by Mr. Peter Wood.

dren’s Choir, or if you are thinking they might want to join for this coming school year.
Singers and Musicians Needed
Do you have a talent for singing or playing an instrument, and a desire to use your talent in
service to God and others? Then we have a place for you in the St. James music ministry. We are recruiting new choir members to sing at 9am or
11am masses, cantors, accompanists and instrumentalists. We also need children to sing at the Children’s Masses on the second Sunday of
each month. The commitment is to attend at most one practice a week and arrive at church 30
minutes before Mass. In return, we will help you develop your skills, show off your talent, and make
beautiful music among friends. Contact Brian O’Neill by emailing [email protected] or leave a
message at 281-353-5053x123 to set up an audition. Projectionists also wanted.
