“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.” (Matthew 7:1)
This passage is easy to say, but difficult to do.
We were born judging everything. When we try to decipher how to deal with any situation, we judge people and things.
When we prayed as children, “God is great, God is good,” why could-n’t He be “greater” and “more good” than what we have ever imag-ined? (Even in the compliments we shower upon God, He can always be better!)
There are referees and umpires for ball games; there are judges for school projects and for lawful decisions in the community. There are teachers whose grading systems are all judged in different ways. Pas-tors and parents pass judgment every day. Legislators and other com-munity leaders do too. Doctors and nurses have to make decisions every moment of every day – so do families in many and various medical situations with their doctors.
The decision-making process is full of having to pass judgment of one sort or the other.
If you are kind hearted (judgmentally), people tend to be kind hearted back to you. If you show a mean spirit toward another, they are liable to do the same in return. That’s what I think Jesus means in this pas-sage. We are called to love and care and not to offer any form of con-demning judgment.
Judge in love and patience. Be kind every way you can and it will come back to you. We are servants of God and must share His grace in each moment of life. When you judge, be careful: “…the measure you give will be the measure you get.” (Mt. 7:2b)
Your friend in Christ,
Pastor Jim

“Stewardship is a mat-
ter of the heart. My
stewardship practices
are a response to the
boundless love God
first showed me. It means that I am grateful
for all that God has generously entrusted to
me. As a faithful steward and child of God, I
understand that (the) decisions I make, in
all aspects of my life, reveal my priorities. It
is a privilege to share time, talents and fi-
nances, to care for God’s earth and to serve
my neighbors. Being a good steward has
brought me great joy and has helped me
grow spiritually. I am blessed to be a bless-

VBS Information This year’s Bible adventure will take us to Babylon. We will be visiting Daniel on June 3-7 from 5:30-8:30. Here’s what you need to know:
• Registration forms are located on the #summerhappenings bulletin board in the main hallway. Please fill out a form and leave it in the envelope. This will help en-sure we have enough supplies and food for the week. Camp adventurers must have completed Pre-K through Grade 4.
• If you’d like to be an adventure guide (completed Grade 5 or above), please fill out a registration form and write HELPER across the top. This form should be left in the envelope with the other completed forms.
• If you are an adult with a sense of adventure and would like to help with VBS, please sign up on the volunteer list on the #summerhappenings board. We wel-come all volunteers, whether you can work one day of the week or the whole week. Prayerfully consider joining us; it’s a lot of fun!
• We need the following supplies to help offset the cost of VBS. If you can con-tribute any of the following items, please sign up on the supply list on the #summerhappenings board and leave the item in the kitchen by Sunday, May 27.
✓ ✓ variety packs of individual size bags of chips ✓ packs of individual size bags of Doritos (red) ✓ large bag of potting soil (please leave this with Sean or Marcy)
• Our VBS stewardship project is Blessing Bags for the Homeless. These are gallon-sized baggies filled with non-perishable food items, that will be assembled and given to ARCH and JC Schools for distribution to our local homeless popula-tion. We will be collecting money to purchase the food items and assembling the bags on the last day of camp. If you have an interest in helping with this im-portant ministry, please see Sean or Marcy for additional information. We are His hands and feet…
1 Corinthians 12:27-28 (NIV)
27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of differ-ent kinds of tongues.
Parishioners,
Thank you for allowing God to use you to bless those around you. Thanks to all that sacrificed their time to attend the What to do “IF” class in April. This class served as an educational and training opportunity to pre-pare us to aid in the safety and well-being of all who attend worship and other events at Our Saviour Luther-an Church.
Special thanks to David Hamilos and Jim Montag for assisting me with the class. Their willingness to share their knowledge and experience to help others is so appreciated. ~Go God, Melissa Malenda, RN-parish nurse
Being prepared to save someone’s life is of utmost importance especially if it is a family member or friend.
Our Saviour is concerned about the safety and well-being of everyone who attends worship and all functions
at the church. For this reason, a Medical Emergency Action Plan (MEAP) has been created. I am in the pro-
cess of organizing a medical emergency response team that will be available during worship. Anyone who is
interested in being on the team is asked to participate in the CPR training being offered at the church or pro-
vide proof of certification. Ushers, staff, PDO staff, Health/Wellness Committee are also asked to participate.
A HeartSaver CPR/AED Class is being offered : May 12, 2018—9am-1pm in the fellowship hall. Sign up
sheets are located on the Parish Nurse bulletin board, the bulletin board located in the fellowship hallway
and also the staff hallway. Please save this date and make every effort to attend. Other parish nurses will be
assisting with this class to be able to accommodate a larger class.

Musings from the Organ Bench
Winter clothes; spring clothes. Furnace on; fur-nace off. Work inside; work outside. Do you feel like a yo-yo? The good news is that it is now May and we can look slightly ahead to the last possible frost day and rejoice!!! Our veggie gardens await!
This is joy! God gives us an abundance of “seasons” in East Tennessee. We find His creativity in every page of the calendar. I pray that your “seasons” are filled with the love and joy of Jesus Christ! Paul’s words to the Philippians to rejoice in all things sing out to us today!
In gratitude, I lift up some special folks who have given of their talents and time: your Chancel Choir. Each week for nine months (and feast days), they give tirelessly to lead you in singing and worship. Special anthems heighten the Gospel and give way to praise and prayer. Please join me in thanking these wonderful folks! They have given and con-tinue to give me great joy!
Sopranos: Sylvia Beckelhimer, Ann Smith, Ann Cunningham, Barbara Jernigan, Mary Alice Nipper
Altos: Mary Ann McGaughey, Alex Bolger, Ellen Guigelaar, Margaret Allown
Basses: Jim Quillin, Fred Beckelhimer, Steve Alex-ander
Also a big thank you to them for the beautiful music on Good Friday and Easter!
During Lent, Kaeli Gardner provided guitar accom-paniment for our intercessory prayer response. Her sensitive treatment of the “Dayenu” (It would have been enough…Jewish prayer) is most appre-ciated! Be sure to thank her too! She is a member of OSLC.
I want to lift up Kevin Howard for the beautiful soprano saxophone prelude and accompaniment to the choir’s “Steal Way” on March 4. Kevin is a member of Grace Fellowship and directs the Band program at Liberty Bell School. THANKS, Kevin!
Let’s be effusive in our praise of our God! Open your hearts and mouths to sing! Remember what Dr. Luther said: “In singing, you pray twice.”
Blessings and love as we continue our journeys!

Thank You Parish and Staff
To our friends and members at Our Saviour Lutheran Church,
Thank you for the kindness, cards, emails, calls and prayers on behalf of our son, Bob, during his illness and passing.
Knowing that our family was remembered and cared for during our time of need, reassured us of the benefits of Christian love.
Please continue to pray for us as we mourn Bob’s loss.
Sincerely
Barry, Helen, Richard, and David Fetterolf
How great is the power of love! We are blessed to be part of such a compassionate community and church. We thank you, the congregation of OSLC, for all your kind words, prayers, gifts, food, and visits; for Pastor Nipper, Pastor Ed and Melissa for their visits to Norman at the VA. They lifted his spirits greatly! Your continued prayers will be very much appreciated as we move forward with de-cisions regarding the rebuilding of our home.
