We can remember, be drawn to remember more events and more tucked away moments of yesterday, than at most times throughout the year. Memories are a powerful possession. We can remember and be brought to laughter in an heartbeat, and at the next beat of that heart be filled with tears for the memory of a heartache, an absence, or a missed opportunity. Remember - The word “remember” or a variation of it, occurs some 230 times in the NKJV of scripture. The word “remembrance” occurs 32 times in the NKJV. To remember, to bring to remembrance, to call to the mind. 57 times in the book of Psalms alone, the act of remembrance is emphasized as the purpose or focus of the writings of selected Psalms. Jesus left two symbols for His people, for Christians, for the church, to use in order to remember Him - The symbol of His supper and the symbol of His baptism. How many other symbols have we tried to create or make, invent or adopt in order to somehow communicate either to the world or even to God, our devotion? We wear crosses or carry an extreme outward appearance; denominations have selected certain garments to show a measure of devotion and piety. Yet these are not the signs and symbols, the offerings and the gifts He has asked us to give back to Him. His baptism shows our consecration to Him and our cleansing through Him. His supper shows our communion with Him. These two remembrances, are the centerpiece of our devotion to Him. The Supper is where we remember the price paid for our sins. In the past, the blood of bulls and goats could not take away sins. Therefore, the greatest hope of the past was to let the thought of sin fade to the background for a few months, only to be reminded of its pain and presence in your life, year after year. When Jesus was on the cross, His blood had to be spilled, shed, in order to offer a sacrifice for sins. When the guards came that evening to check on those being crucified, their intent was to check for death or hasten it. It was unlawful to leave anyone on the cross, since it was the Sabbath. When the spear of the soldier pierced His side, He was dead, but His blood gushed forth (John 19:31-37). His blood was shed to pay the price of sin, to cover over the sins of the people. His blood was shed in order to pay the price of sin, a price which required death, price which each and everyone of us would have had to pay on our own, but He took our place. When His body and blood were broken and spilled, He settled the debt of sin, not just for your sins, but for yours and the world. Had it just been your sins, He would have done it anyway. Baptism is where we find the Body and Blood of Jesus to be a part of our lives. His death, His burial, and His resurrection, that’s where the power of His blood is found in order to find our hope for salvation. Everyone who is in Jesus Christ is a new creation - We cannot hear into Jesus, we cannot believe into Jesus, we cannot repent into Jesus, we cannot confess into Jesus - we must be baptized into Jesus! (Romans 6:3-4). I hope you know, there is no greater remembrance than our Lord’s salvation and supper with Him; and there is no better time than now, to share these with Him.

“HAPPY PEOPLE LEARN THAT happiness, like sweat, is a by-product of activity.” -Frank Pittman III. There truly is happiness in rest, but often this time of year it is found it activity. In this busy time, may we find our happiness busy in the work of the Lord. As it seems more good is done this time of year than any other, let us challenge ourselves to do those good deeds all year long. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” –Galatians 6:9 follow His path, -Craig
