“…I don’t think I’ll go exploring anymore!”
Dad shouted, “Are you ready to go through the jungle and explore?”
“Yes!” shouted back Jack and Rosie with an enthusiastic roar
“Well strap yourselves in and hold on tight…
“Because we’re going to see some unbelievable sights”
Dad then drove their open topped jeep with great skill and care
Into the jungle past tigers, snakes, giraffes and bears
When suddenly, they heard a mighty roar
As a lion came bounding towards them across the jungle floor
“Quick dad!” shouted Jack, “we’ve got a lion on our tail…
“Speed up! This is no time to be going like a snail!”

But the lion was fast and rose ready to maul
When suddenly the ground opened up and the car started to fall
The car went down into a deep, dark hole
Falling and falling, spiralling out of control
Until their jeep finally smashed into the ground…
With an almighty crashing sound
Dad asked, “Is everyone okay?” as he looked back
“No,” Mum said in alarm, “I can’t see Jack”
“I’m stuck up here” they heard him call
“This tree managed to break my fall”

“And from up so high, I can’t believe this scene…
“Surely I must be in some kind of dream…
“Because just behind you, I think I just saw…
“The world’s biggest and meanest dinosaur”
Rosie giggled, “Did you hear what Jack just said?”
“Don’t laugh,” said mum, “he must have banged his head”
“He must be sick…
“Get him down quick!”
But then the branch broke and Jack did fall
And landed right on top of them all

And as they all staggered groggily from the floor…
A bunch of cavemen holding spears was what they saw
They looked really scary with their long hair, beards and chests bare
“We surrender!” said Mum, throwing her hands straight up in the air
The biggest caveman spoke, “It’s not us you should fear…
“But the man-eating dinosaurs that live round here
“If we don’t move quickly, they will be here ready to kill
“And you will become their first lunchtime meal”
Jack quickly said, “Well, I’m on your side…”
“Just tell me where to hide!”
“I agree,” said mum, “we only came out for a drive…”
“Not to meet dinosaurs and be eaten alive”

The caveman replied, “We’ll take you to our cave where you will stay”
“The dinosaurs don’t like our fire and won’t come in during the day”
So, they turned and ran with all their might…
Into the cave, shaking with fright
“I’m exhausted,” Jack did moan
As the cavemen all said, “Welcome to your new home”
Rosie said “Please don’t take offence because you’ve been ever so kind…
“But living in a cave without a hairbrush was not what I had in mind”
“Me neither,” whispered mum, “did you see their teeth, they’re really black?”
“And the clothes look like they’re wearing an old potato sack”
Rosie whispered back, “And have you smelt their breath?”
“Don’t get too close or the fumes could cause instant death”
“Shut up you two,” snapped dad. “Without their help, we could all die”
“Otherwise I’ll make you give them all a long kiss goodbye”

“Some drinks?” a cavegirl asked, carrying out a tray
“Great! I’m really thirsty,” Jack did loudly say
The girl sweetly said, “This is our traditional tribal drink…
“Please take a sip and tell us what you think”
So, the Grimdale family all took a gulp of the orange liquor
And immediately felt a whole lot sicker
“Unusually sweet taste,” said dad, “how do you make it?”
“We add crushed bat wing and beetle urine bit by bit”
“One sip is ever so filling,” said Jack. “I don’t think I can take any more”
“Me neither,” the Grimdales all said as they put their cups down on the floor
Rosie whispered, “No wonder their breath really does stink”
“If beetle wee is all that they ever drink!”

A caveman then said, “There’s something on our wall I’d like to show…
“It was drawn by our ancestors a long time ago
“It shows strange people, like you, have been here before…
“Standing where you are now, on this very floor”
“Wow!” said dad, “Look at what they drew!
“People with clothes and an old car too”
Rosie then shouted in excitement, “Come and look at this wall
“Maybe this drawing explains it all
“The car is drawn on the top of an erupting volcano going up into the sky”
Rosie then paused, “But isn’t that dangerous, didn’t they all die?”
“We only paint happy scenes” explained a bearded man
Jack laughed in delight, “Well then, I guess we’ve just found our masterplan”

The bearded man said, “That volcano erupts every day and is over the ridge to our
right”
“Great!” said dad. “We can avoid the dinosaurs if we leave in the dark tonight”
A cavegirl shook her head. “The volcano doesn’t erupt at night…
“I’m afraid that it only erupts each day at very first light”
Dad turned to the family, “Well team, what do you say?
“Shall we risk going to the volcano or in this cave, shall we stay?”
Jack said, “Well I’d rather take on the ridge climb…
“Than sit round here drinking wee for the rest of my time”
“I agree,” said mum. “If you expect me to stay round here, I suggest you re-think
“There’s no way I’m staying and being left to stink”

So, the next morning, after they’d all slept…
Out of the cave the Grimdales all crept
They climbed back into their car and carefully turned the key
So not as to alert the dinosaurs that they were about to flee
The car finally started and off they fled
Towards the volcano was where they did head
Just then, a Pterodactyl came flying in low which made them all duck
“Keep down low,” said dad, “or next time we might not have so much luck”

A T-Rex then ran infront of the car and eyed them up and down
With a slightly curious but hungry frown
They were blocked with nowhere to go
And so Jack jumped out of his seat and decided to put on a show
He did a dance with great panache and flair
Which made the dinosaur stop and stare
The dinosaur then started to do his own little bop
“He likes it Jack,” mum shouted. “Please don’t stop!”

Just then another bigger dinosaur came along
Looked at Jack’s dancing and then burst into song
Suddenly, dinosaurs came from all around to join in the fun
Dad said, “Come on Jack, your work here is done
“It’s time to end the show…
“Get back in the car and let’s go!”
So, into the jeep Jack did dive
And Dad drove off quickly through the middle of the dinosaur jive
And as one of the dinosaurs loudly finished his song
They all turned around to see the Grimdales had gone
The car was now parked right on top of the volcano floor
Waiting for it to erupt so as to return to Earth once more

“Uh-oh!” said Rosie, “The dinosaurs have just realised they’ve been fooled!
“They’re coming this way and if this volcano doesn’t blow, we’ll all be mauled”
The dinosaurs charged on towards them in temper and rage
As Mum asked, “Why is this volcano taking such an age?”
Just then the volcano erupted with a mighty roar
And up into the air, their car did soar
Up and up until it landed once more onto firm ground
The Grimdales had been delivered back to Earth safe and sound
Jack said, “Although it was great to dance with a dinosaur…
“I don’t think I’ll go exploring anymore!”
