REMINDERS

o Help keep our explorers healthy! Physical activity and movement are extremely important! Please encourage your child to participate in the “Let’s Move” dancing and exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, they will receive a blast-off buck for participating. We also ask that you please send your child to school with healthy snacks.

o Please do not send candy or sugary items to school on 10/31/18.

o Attendance is IMPORTANT at CAL! Please make school attendance a top priority.

o Check Your Child’s Backpack Daily: Homework is given daily and students are required to read each night for a minimum of 20 minutes (this requirement may be higher depending on the grade & teacher).

o Please respect our neighbors and the city by following all traffic procedures in the morning and afternoon. In order to keep our students safe, we ask that your follow the drop off procedures.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Thank you to our School Site Council members and ELAC parents who showed up to last night’s meetings. They were truly productive meetings and I am excited about our work moving forward. We have an eventful week coming up next week. Not only are our students participating in National Red Ribbon week, all students will be taking Benchmark Assessments to end out Trimester 1. Please make sure your students get a good night’s rest and are here bright and early on Monday to be successful on the Benchmark Assessments.

FALL GRAMS ARE STILL ON SALE! The last day to purchase a fall gram is

MONDAY. They will be sold before and after school

and will be delivered to classrooms on Wednesday. The grams are only $1 and all

funds go to our 5th grade Trimester 1 activity “The Dance Night”.

MORE HIGHLIGHTS

RED RIBBON WEEK!We will be participating in National Red Ribbon Week starting Monday, October 29, 2018 and having a Red Ribbon Festival on the afternoon of 10/31/18. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October. The focus is to educate students on the dangers of drugs and to encourage them to focus on their education. The theme for the week will be “Explore Education, Not Drugs”. Students will be able to participate in drug-free themed days for the entire week, recess activities, and afternoon festivities on 10/31/18. On October 31, 2018 students may dress up as a character from their favorite children’s book.

Monday, October 29, 2018 - Theme & Activity: "I don't see drugs in my future" Students may wear sunglasses to school this day. Students will also take a pledge against drugs & receive a red ribbon to wear the entire week. Students who wear their red ribbon each day will receive a blast-off buck!

Tuesday, October 30, 2018 - Theme & Activity: "Put a Cap on Drugs " Students may wear various style hats to school this day. Students will also participate in fun recess activities.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 - Theme & Activity: "Focus on Reading, Not Drugs" Students must bring their favorite children’s story-book to school and may dress up as their favorite character from the book. After lunch, we will have a Red Ribbon Festival to end out the week, where students can participate in various fun activities.

● If students decide to participate, they must come already dressed as their character when they arrive at school (students will not be allowed to change). If students are not participating, they must wear their school uniform.

● They must bring a book also, we will focus reading and literature that day, so bringing their favorite book is essential.

● Please do not send students to school with candy. Please support our goals to keep our explorers healthy.

o ¡Ayude a mantener saludables a nuestros exploradores! ¡La actividad física y el movimiento son extremadamente importantes! Por favor anime a su hijo a participar en el baile "Vamos a movernos" y hacer ejercicio los martes y jueves por la mañana, recibirán dinero (Blast off Bucks)por participar. También le pedimos que envíe a su hijo a la escuela con bocadillos saludables.

o Por favor no envíe dulces o artículos azucarados a la escuela el 10/31/18.

o ¡La asistencia es IMPORTANTE en CAL! Por favor haga que la asistencia a la escuela sea una prioridad.

o Verifique diariamente la mochila de su hijo: la tarea se entrega a diario y se requiere que los estudiantes lean todas las noches durante un mínimo de 20 minutos (este requisito puede ser mayor según la nota y el maestro).

o Tráfico: Por favor, respete a nuestros vecinos y la ciudad siguiendo todos los procedimientos de tráfico por la mañana y por la tarde. Para mantener a nuestros estudiantes seguros, le pedimos que siga los procedimientos de entrega.

Gracias a nuestros miembros del Consejo Escolar y a los padres de ELAC que asistieron a las reuniones de la noche anterior. Fueron reuniones realmente productivas y estoy emocionado de que nuestro trabajo avance. Tenemos una semana llena de acontecimientos la próxima semana. Nuestros estudiantes no solo participan en la Semana Nacional del Listón Rojo, todos los estudiantes tomarán Evaluaciones de Referencia para finalizar el Trimestre 1. Asegúrese de que sus estudiantes tengan un buen descanso nocturno y lleguen temprano el lunes para tener éxito en las Evaluaciones de Referencia

MÁS DESTACADOS

SEMANA DE CINTA ROJA!Estaremos participando en la Semana Nacional del Listón Rojo a partir del 29 de octubre de 2018 y tendremos un Festival del Listón Rojo en la tarde del 10/31/18. La Semana del Listón Rojo es una campaña de concientización sobre prevención de drogas, alcohol y otras drogas y violencia observada anualmente en octubre. El objetivo es educar a los estudiantes sobre los peligros de las drogas y alentarlos a centrarse en su educación. El tema de la semana será "Explorar la educación, no a las drogas". Los estudiantes podrán participar en actividades de recreo, días temáticos libres de drogas durante toda la semana y participar en las festividades de la tarde del 10/31/18. El 31 de octubre de 2018, los estudiantes pueden vestirse como un personaje de su libro favorito solamente.

Lunes, 29 de octubre de 2018 - Tema y actividad: "No veo drogas en mi futuro" Los estudiantes pueden usar lentes de sol para ir a la escuela este día. Los estudiantes también harán una promesa contra las drogas y recibirán una cinta roja para usar toda la semana. ¡Los estudiantes que usan su cinta roja cada día recibirán un dólar de despegue!

Martes, 30 de octubre de 2018 - Tema y actividad: "Poner un límite a las drogas" Los estudiantes pueden usar varios sombreros/gorras de cualquier estilo a la escuela este día. Los estudiantes también participarán en divertidas actividades de recreo.

Miércoles, 31 de octubre de 2018 - Tema y actividad: "Concéntrese en la lectura, no en las drogas" Los estudiantes deben traer el libro de cuentos de sus hijos favoritos a la escuela y pueden vestirse como su personaje favorito del libro. Después del almuerzo, tendremos un Festival del Listón Rojo para terminar la semana, donde los estudiantes pueden participar en varias actividades divertidas.

● Si los estudiantes deciden participar, deben venir ya vestidos como su personaje cuando lleguen a la escuela (los estudiantes no podrán cambiar). Si los estudiantes no participan, deben usar su uniforme escolar.

● También deben traer un libro, nos enfocaremos en lectura y literatura ese día, por lo que traer su libro favorito es esencial.

● Por favor no envíe a los estudiantes a la escuela con dulces. Por favor apoye nuestras metas para mantener a nuestros exploradores saludables.
