Introduction – EUFORES EUFORES is the European parliamentary network for renewable energy and energy efficiency with members from all major political groups in the European Parliament as well as in the EU 27 national Parliaments. EUFORES promotes the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency within Europe. Therefore it organises events and conferences to offer Parliamentarians and other key-players the opportunity to exchange views. The annual Inter-Parliamentary Meeting is EUFORES’ largest event with usually 50-80 Members of Parliaments from all over Europe. Parliamentarians are key actors when it comes to drafting legislation for renewable energy and energy efficiency, which is crucial for developing an effective and stable legislative framework for market development in those sectors.
12th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (IPM12)
When: 23rd November & 24th November 2012 Venue: Hellenic Parliament, Athens Duration: 1,5 day conference Participants: Members of the European Parliament, Members of Parliaments of the EU27, parliamentary civil servants, government representatives, national industry associations, non-parliamentary EUFORES members, selected high level experts, 120-140 participants. Information: The IPM12 is organised in close cooperation with the Hellenic Parliament. The conference will be divided into two sessions: renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. The Inter-Parliamentary Meeting naturally attracts Members of Parliaments and civil servants as well as core members of the EUFORES network. There will be excellent networking opportunities throughout the conference, as well as during a welcome reception on the night before the conference starts, during a gala dinner held on the first conference day and a lunch at the sea-side on the second conference day. The first day of the conference will focus on several topics: the projects on renewable energy sources (RES) and their potential to find ways out of the economic crisis; the role of the structural funds in supporting local RES developments; the Renewables Directive and the evaluation of the implementation of EU Member States’ renewable energy policies in relation to the 20% renewable energy target by 2020; innovation, a green economy and renewables from a business leadership perspective. In the afternoon session, regional workshops are planned, which will provide constructive discussion platforms with representatives from the respective regions (Southern and Mediterranean, North-Western, Baltic and Scandinavian, Central and South-Eastern Europe). Besides the EU institutional perspective, the feedback and input from business, NGOs, bank experts and the scientific community will be extremely important in order to make EU policies and processes more effective. On the second day of the IPM12, the conference will be devoted to topics related to energy efficiency such as the implementation of the Energy Services Directive and transposition of the new Energy Efficiency Directive. Energy efficiency will also be discussed as an industrial policy and innovation driver for Europe. Distinguished speakers from the European and national Parliaments and the European Commission will present their views on these relevant topics and engage with all participants, including you, in fruitful discussions.
