There continues to be a large amount of SPAMMING going on which appears on the face of it to come from local parish priests. These have gone from coming strictly via email, to now coming through text mes-sages. The message usually asks for gift cards or a wire transfer of funds. A number of unsuspecting pa-rishioners through out the Archdiocese have fallen for this scam. We are asking you to ignore all electronic requests such as the ones stated above. The only way we can stop people from being taken advantage of is to spread the word that this is going on.

Empty Nesters Outing

Pastors Note ~ 4th Easter 2019: I know my sheep and my sheep know me.

An afternoon with the Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra and then dinner with friendly fellow parishion-ers. “Celebrating Spring” with a program including A Trumpeter’s Lullaby by Anderson, St. Louis Blues, Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever and much more. Beginning at 3:30pm on Sunday, May 26 at the theater followed by dinner at a restaurant of the group’s choosing. For more information call Ilene at 503-667-2500. Sponsored by the Empty Nesters.

Today is the Sunday of the Good Shepherd: I know my sheep and my sheep know me, and I lay down my life for them. When the shepherd is not around, he supplies another shepherd answerable to Him to guard and protect. Fr Chrispine and I get together earlier in the week to pray about what homily message God wishes us to deliver. I shared about llamas defend-ing sheep as an Oregon tradition among sheep farmers. Coyotes and wolves would be the main predators here. Fr. Chrispine wasn’t aware of llamas, but he shared that in Kenya families use pundas (donkeys) to de-fend the family’s sheep. The donkeys are strong, aggressive, for they know the home livestock and the family. Predators: hyena or a leopard…the punda will put itself between to defend the sheep. It will not run away until the flock is safe. It even uses a “kung fu” kick (mateke), with loud hee haws, and a big bite if necessary. It is bred to do this…the pundas are well cared for by the Shepherd, well fed…even when the punda dies

the owners give them a respectful burial…some even burying them with money! Llamas and Pundas: are appointed by the Good Shepherd Alleluia we proclaim. We are sheep. And the Good Shepherd has found us, every single one of us. Jesus leaves us in safe hands with pundas or llamas; and we are also given a vocation as pundas for the sheep. This is not only “Prayer for Vocations Sunday, but it is Mother’s Day. The theme for today could not be better planned in the Church calendar. Sheepherding. especially in Jesus' day, was a lonely, harsh and dangerous occupation. Jesus was not using hyperbole, therefore, when he says that the good shepherd must be ready to lay down his life for the sheep. It is only the bad shepherd, for whom the sheep are of merely utilitarian value, who flees because he is unwilling to risk his own life when they are attacked. Jesus is not really talking about sheepherding, of course. He is speaking instead about the intimate, personal bond that must exist between him and his followers. He offers his life for them, and they respond in total trust, so that they know and love Jesus in the same deeply personal way that Jesus knows and loves his heavenly Father. If we wish to be followers of the good shepherd, we must have that same relationship with God that Jesus did. This means that we must open ourselves to the reality of God's love for us and then do all that we can to make that love a reality in the lives of others. . Note also: The Shepherd feeds the donkey well, Jesus feeds us with both his Word and his Body and Blood. And when the life of the donkey comes to an end, the Shepherd will give an honorable reception: "You take care of your life, and the Lord will take care of your death." The owner of the sheep will come back to rejoice with the pundas forever! Today we reflect on our own vocation and we pray for vocations to conse-crated life and to the priesthood. We also pray for our mothers on Mother’s Day. They are a great example of loving shepherding.

Flock Notes

“The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 13:52) The disciples heard Our Lord’s call and were able to spread the Gospel message with strength and vitality. We, too, can experience that same joy if we make room for the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts. When we use our gifts in the way that God intends, He fills us with super-natural joy. A joy that others notice and are attracted to.

Fifth month Your baby has now completed 5 months of life. The mother may feel the baby kick, turn or hiccup and may be able to identify a bulge on the outside as an elbow or head. Each side of the brain has a billion nerve cells now and the senses - smell, vision, touch, taste and hearing are develop-ing. The baby is now about 7 1/2 inches long. Did you know that if a baby is born at five months' gestation, chances of surviving with medical in-tervention are approximately 50 percent? (from the University of Wisconsin Medical School (2001),http://www.pediatrics.wisc.edu/childrenshosp/parentsofpreemies/survival.html) At this time in our baby’s life the threat of abortion is still real. Keep praying for your baby that they will continue to develop and grow. Pray for the baby’s mother, too, that she will protect her baby. Prayer: Jesus, protect and save the unborn.

Lecturas: Hechos 13,14.43–52 Salmo 100,1–3.5 Apocalipsis 7,9,14–17 Juan 10, 27–30
