LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

“DOXOLOGY” No. 815 BENEDICTION POSTLUDE “Toccatta” Boellman LUKE 18:9-14 (NIV)

“To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people - robbers, evildoers, adulterers - or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said: ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

CALL TO WORSHIP (From Psalm 65, Joel 2) L: Praise is due to you, O God, O you who answer prayer. P: Happy are those who live in your courts – those who are satisfied with the goodness. L: You are the hope of all things, Holy One, from the ends of the earth to the farthest seas. P: You make the gateways of the evening and the morning shout for joy. L: Rejoice in God, O people and be glad. P: Let us shout and sing together for joy. HYMN “At the Name of Jesus” No. 766

(Verses 1, 2 & 3) CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison)

Dear Lord, we call upon you because we need your presence in our lives. We acknowledge that although we act as if we are self-made and self-sufficient, we need you. Help us to remember that this is not weakness, but strength. Help us to realize that one of the greatest parts of being human is that we are created with an empty space in our heart, especially suited for you to dwell.

Announcements for October 23, 2016

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP TODAY

Caring for a loved one, though rewarding, can also be very challenging. In many cases, the family is the primary source of support for an individual who is no longer able to care for themselves alone. The responsibility is often very demanding of time, energy, health, and resources. The Caregiver Support Group will meet TODAY from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Fireside Room North. Kathy Bilak (Physician Assistant specializing in Radiation Oncology) and Pastor Lynne will be hosting the support group for caregivers on the fourth Sunday of each month. The goal of the Caregiver Support Group is to teach and encourage self-care, as well as provide a forum of support and understanding from others facing similar situations.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY

Professor Terry Daughtrey continues the series on the biblical holidays this Tuesday, October 25 at 10:00 AM and Wednesday, October 26 at 6:45 in Souers Hall. This week we will concentrate on Pesach, the first of the three Pilgrimage Festivals, celebrating the initial stage of Adonai’s establishing of his covenant with his people. The concept of the transition from chaos to order is expressed by the going "up to Jerusalem", the central place of absolute order. This holiday is referred to as "festival" or "meal" holiday. Thus, substantial emphasis is placed on the meal associated with Pesach. Please bring your Bible and a writing utensil if possible.

Take time to check out what’s happening…
