River to SeaPreserve

Trail MapTotaling approximately 90 acres between the Matan-zas River and the Atlantic Ocean, the River to Sea Preserve exhibits a variety of endemic habitat native to northeast Florida from the maritime hammock along the eastern shore of the Matanzas River to the coquina outcroppings along the Atlantic shoreline. From the parking area, situated on ancient dunes, visitors can take a leisurely stroll through a coastal scrub habitat where they may encounter gopher tortoises, Anastasia Island Beach Mice, or even a bobcat. Continuing westward, the habitat changes from scrub to a mesic maritime forest dominated by large oaks, cabbage palm, and cedars. Reaching the river, there are opportunities to observe wading birds, such as spoon bills, limpkin, heron and eagles, Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, and manatees. We hope you enjoy the preserve and take the time to experience each unique habitat. Take only pictures and leave only footprints.
