LIGHT HORSEMAN MEMORIAL STATUE
ANZAC DAY
The Shire of Kondinin was thrilled that a photo taken at
Yeerakine Rock with descendants of the Light Horseman
Brigade from this area was on the front page of last Saturday’s
Weekend West. Of course, it was all because of the Light
Horseman Memorial being unveiled on Anzac Day.
Unfortunately, the accompanying article on page 20 was
incorrect in the community funding for the Light Horseman
Statue which they put at $1,000. In fact, the correct figure is
actually $16,500 comprising a $10,000 donation from the
Kondinin Community & Recreation Council, $2,500 from the
Kondinin Hotel Community & Sporting Association and $4,000
from the Carols by Torchlight No Smoking Grant 2013.

skip bin to remove that extra waste.
The skip bin is available to all residents to use on a rotational
basis. To ensure that all requests are met in a timely manner, it is
allocated for a two week period. Exten-
sions can be granted if there is no one on

CLUBS FACE ANZAC DAY OBLIGATION
The Anzac Day Act 1960 says organisations hosting sporting events for which people pay to watch must pay 60 per cent of
the net proceeds from the event to the Anzac Day Trust. Any sporting events held on ANZAC Day fall under the requirements
of the ANZAC Day Act 1960. As ANZAC Day is on a Saturday, this may impact clubs around Western Australia and you need to
ensure you comply with the act. As a courtesy, we strongly suggest you contact your local RSL (Returned and Services
League).
This does not apply to fitness centres, exercise classes, swimming pools etc. Even if the sporting events is not profitable, a
return has to be submitted to the Anzac Day Trust. The form is available for download.
The Act also says (and the RSL strongly supports this) that no race, match, game, exercise, pastime, contest or any other
event should commence before the hour of 1pm on Anzac Day.
After 1pm the act allows community or club level sporting events (e.g. junior soccer, hockey or football) to be played, provid-
ed people are not asked to pay to watch the match or donations of any kind are sought by the organisers.
As ANZAC Day is on a Saturday, this may impact clubs around Western Australia and you need to ensure your club complies
with the act. As a courtesy, we suggest you contact your local RSL.

Media release April 21, 2015 Awards champion business women across all sectors
Local Member Mia Davies MLA has called on the Central Wheatbelt electorate to help recognise local business women who are challenging the status quo and breaking new ground, by nomi-nating them for the 2015 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.
Ms Davies said the Telstra Business Women’s Awards, now in its 21st year, provides a unique
opportunity to showcase exceptional business women in the Wheatbelt.
“The Wheatbelt has an incredible depth of business women who are achieving great things and demonstrating the value women bring to business and the importance of a diverse and equitable workforce.
“These women are creative and passionate individuals whose leadership and success play a crucial role in driving the nation’s productivity and performance, ensuring our country remains relevant and competitive.”
Ms Davies said “I urge the community to get behind our local business women by nominating them for the 2015 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.”
Local business women in the Central Wheatbelt that have been previously successful in the Tel-stra Business Women’s Awards include Jane Mouritz of Hyden who was a finalist in the Busi-ness Innovation Award. Nominations are now open and entries will be open from Monday 11 May until Sunday 28 June. State and Territory winners of the Telstra Business Women’s Awards will be named at evening events later this year. National awards including the prestigious title of Telstra Australi-an Business Woman of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Melbourne on Wednes-day 25 November 2015. To nominate or enter the Awards, go to www.womensawards.com or call the Telstra Aus-tralian Business Women’s Awards on 1800 817 536 for further information. For media enquiries please contact Mia Davies on 9041 1702 (Merredin office) 9622 2871 (Northam office), or email [email protected].
