Architecture is perceived in its entirety by means of human senses. The geometry of a room is understood through materiality, verticality, horizontality, as well as acoustics, smells and touch. This study focuses on creating a space that speaks to these senses. A comprehensible system is introduced to guide the visitor through, constructing a mental map of senses and memories of the building. The system strongly focuses on the floor surface since it is the first plane a visitor touches. With changing topography and materiality of the floor surface the visitor understands the barriers and remembers the thresholds. A single continuous element that begins on the exterior of the building guides the visitor not only by tactile understanding of it, but also an auditory perception of the element. Within the building direct light is used for directionality; it becomes an identifiable object. Diffused light is only used to bring in the light wherever needed. Stairs are highlighted with a subtle first step and the contrast of the material. The comprehensible system is set up in such a manner as to hear the space before seeing it, to understand the space before confronting it, and to feel the space before touching it.

3 Reconstruction of Apartment Complex

The studio focused on reconstruction of an A-Pa-Tu complex (apartment block) in Anyang, Korea. The task was to propose a model for redeveloping high-density residential block with mixture of programs that reflects changing social trends of a now developed nation. The project focused on farming as one of the socio-economic trends, bringing leisurely farming into a high-density residential block. Project was presented in a 5-minute video format.

Utopia: organiCITY

In a rapidly changing climate flexibility is the key. A mobile, independent lifestyle, that is not tied to fixed patterns and predetermined locations becomes increasingly important. organiCITY is an urban society of self-sustainable interrelated nodes that can quickly adopt to the extreme climatic conditions. Three extreme climates were studied: sever cold case of Antarctica, sporadic climate around volcanic activity,

and extreme dry case of a desert.

Professional: collaboration with DYAD

The competition for a Showroom of Ceramica San Lorenzo asked for a clear scheme and new ideas of how to display their product. The current state of the building does not include a clear main entrance nor does it suggest any interesting spaces on the inside or outside. Simple geometric operations proposed to redirect a clear main entrance and suggest an interior spatiality. Interruption of walls and windows orthogo-nally generates unconventional spaces. It reinforces visual connection and constant exposure. New geometry challenges the flexibility of the product with a clean intention: to lead Peruvian construction vanguard while expanding spatial planning vocabulary.
