Issues and SolutionsOur actions can lead to

positive change.Issues, problems, issues! There are big and little issues and problems that concern a lot of people. Some problems and issues have obvious solutions while some issues and problems seem to have no solution.

In your Exhibition process you will get a chance to apply your skills as an action taker to some of these issues and problems. You will be choosing a real problem(either local or global) and carefully working through to a solution and take some action to help this issue or problem.

Working through this Exhibition journal will help you organize your time and resources to discover the best solution to your chosen issue or problem.

Why is this a problem/issue?

This problem affects nature because if animals get extinct, or sick and then they die. Then nature has a big problem. If the animals don’t take the seeds from the plants, then the plants won’t get more. If we then won’t stop cutting down plants and trees, then we son will have no place where there are still many trees, and then we won’t have enough air and we will die too.

This problem affects my emotions and feelings because if animals die, then I feel very sad because then the nature gets affected, and then more animals and people die.

I think it is important because we need animals and plants, otherwise we could not live. It is also important, because if we won’t stop cutting down trees, then many animals won’t have any home.

It is also important that we don’t cut down too many plants, so the animals have to change their diet, and then they could starve because they don’t have enough food.

My topic didn’t change from my first topic. I have Lea and Laura in my group. I am in this group because we all wanted to know why snow leopards are endangered and what we can do against it. Our group can work very cooperatively and effectively. We have many notes and know a lot about snow leopards that are endangered. We work very good in a group and nobody is left out. I liked the first week of collaboration, because I learned a lot about poaching snow leopards. I think it was really fun starting the PYP Exhibition.

Our group didn’t do a survey because I didn’t learn how to make a survey, and we still had to research. Important information from our advisor.

Process Reflection

These are things I thought about our topic before BUT now I think differently

Now I think that we can actually make a big action, and one that could work

The are ideas I had about our problem/issue before and I still have now

The idea I (and my group) had was that we could contact WWF, The idea was that they make a big park for snow leopards.

These are things about our problem/issue that still challenge us and we still wonder about

We still wonder if WWF will take our idea, and if they will write back.

We would like our audience to leave our presentation with these “BIG UNDERSTANDINGS”

We would like our audience to understand why snow leopards and tigers are endangered, and that they understand what they could do against it.

How will your action affect your problem?

Our action will affect the problem because if there are many animals in the park and they are let out, then there are many snow leopards, and then they won’t be endangered anymore.

Who needs to be convinced?

WWF needs to be convinced that it is a good idea to make a park for snow leopards.

What objections might you come up against?

We will interest them because it is a good idea, and WWF is there for helping animals, so I think that it won’t be hard to convince them.

How can you overcome those objections?

We can overcome those objections by writing for what it would be good and why. We will write an email.

What resources will you need?

We will need a computer, and lots of good convincing words.

Who can help you?

Mr.Allen already helped us to write the email to WWF. Now we only have to send it.

Short after we started doing the power point, I continued working on the power point, while Lea and Laura started the poster.

For our action we will go to a second grade class and present. We will all have a part to talk about. I will also adopt a snow leopard.

Exhibition Night Reflection

Our actions can lead to positive change.

I think that he exhibition night was very good. It was good because I didn’t look at the smart board the whole time. I knew most of it by heart, and I didn’t do anything that could distract anyone. I also spoke loud and clear so the audience could understand me. After the presentation the audience knew all the information we told them about snow leopards.

... My final message is that everybody should care about a animals, same as they care about a family member. I also want to say that you should especially care about snow leopards, otherwise you won’t see this wonderful species ever again. You should care about animals before they get extinct. Another message is that PYP exhibition is a very cool and interesting project, and that you shouldn’t be scared to present, and tell others your knowledge, to make a change in the world. In the beginning I was scared too, but when I was presenting, I wasn’t scared or nervous at all.
