    1853 Antoni Gaud was born on June 25, 1852. He was

    born in the province of Tarragona in southernCatalonia. His full birth name is Antoni PlcidGuillem Gaud i Cornet. His parents were FrancescGaud Serra and Antnia Cornet Bertran and theyboth came from families of coppersmiths. AntoniGaud was a Spanish Catalan architect who isfamous for his unique designs.

    Antoni Gaud s early life Antoni Gaud was the youngest of 5 children. All but

    one of his siblings died in childhood. Gaud was a sickchild and as a result he did not play much with otherchildren. Instead of playing he took walks andobserved the countryside. It was during this periodthat Antoni Gaud s fascination of architecture anddesign grew.

    1873 In 1873 Antoni Gaud went to school for architecture.

    He went to school at Escola Tecnica SuperiordArquitectura in Barcelona. Gaud went from 1873

    to 1877. Finally, after five years Antoni Gaud got thetitle of architect in 1878.

    1877 In 1877 Antoni Gaud built the Casa Batll. The local

    name for the building is Casa dels ossos which meansthe house of bones. It has a skeletal organic qualityand the outside looks like it is made from skulls and

    bones. The building was remodeled in 1904 to 1906.The building was designed by Gaud for Josep Batll,a wealthy aristocrat, as an upmarket home. SeorBatll lived in the lower two floors with his family

    and the upper floors were rented out as apartments.

    1883 In 1883 Antoni Gaud started to build his creation

    of La Sagrada Famlia in Barcelona at the age of 31.From then on Antoni Gaud spent most of his time

    working on this eccentric church. When Gaud diedthere was only one nativity scene, one tower, andthe apse and crypt were finished.

    1900 In 1900 Antoni Gaud designed the Park Gell,

    which is also located in Barcelona. The Park Gellwas composed to bring peace and clam that one

    would except from a park. The buildings at theentrance of this park that Gaud designed have verywavy roofs, that fit in very well with the rest ofGauds design.
