Three World-class Musicians Join Pakachoag Music School Faculty 2

Leah Zelnick, dedicated instructor of the Suzuki method for violin, teaches at Pakachoag’s main location in Auburn. She also teaches violin and piano at the School’s Shrewsbury Arts Alive program. She recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at SUNY Stony Brook, where she also earned the Master of Music degree. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Ms. Zelnick has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the world, including Korea, Japan, Italy, Germany, Austria, England, and Denmark. One of her greatest honors was being chosen to perform for the Crown Prince and Princess and an audience of thousands at the Opening Ceremony for the 13th World Suzuki Convention in Matsumoto, Japan, in 1999.

Her orchestral participation also includes the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Salzau, Germany; the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO; the Viva-Vivaldi Orchestra in Washington D.C.; and the National Youth Orchestra in Philadelphia, PA, under Leonard Slatkin. She attended Interlochen Arts Academy for several summers and was awarded the Governor’s Scholarship for the state of Iowa in 1999.

Lipner Marks 25-Year Tenure at Pakachoag

Pakachoag also celebrates the 25-year career of piano instructor Lea Lucia Lipner on the school’s faculty.

“Lea continues to bring sensitivity and dedication to her work with our students,” said Sarah Smongeski, Pakachoag Executive Director. “For a quarter century, Lea’s talent, experience and commitment to the Pakachoag mission have

blended flawlessly to provide students a love of music that they can cherish throughout their lives. The Pakachoag community heartily congratulates Lea on her 25 years as a member of the faculty, and we look forward to many more.”

Ms. Lipner, who was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, began studying the piano at age six. From the age of eight, she studied under Julius Grünstein, a German pianist and member of the Düsseldorf School of Elly Ney, and a student of Ignaz Friedman. Her studies with Maestro Grunstein continued until 1956. At that time she was pursuing a career in mathematics at the University of Buenos Aires, where she graduated in 1965 with a doctorate in mathematics (focused on theoretical orientation) and where she taught for many years.

In the U.S., Ms. Lipner pursued her piano studies with Theodore Lettvin and Darryl Rosenberg in Boston. She has presented solo recitals at WPI’s Higgins House, the Worcester Art Museum, at Steinert Hall in Boston, and Pakachoag Music School.
