Anthony HarrelsonAdvancements in Antiviral

TreatmentAntiviral treatments consist of mostly antiviral drugs used to treat viral infections. Like antibiotics for bacteria, specific antivirals are used for specific viruses. Unlike most antibiotics, antiviral drugs do not destroy their target pathogen, but instead they inhibit their development.

Antiviral drugs are one class of antimicrobials which are a larger group that includes antibiotic, antifungal and antiparasitic drugs. Most antivirals are considered relatively harmless to the host, and, therefore, can be used to treat infections.

DevelopmentDendritic cells are antigen-presenting cells of the mammalian immune system. Their main function is to process antigen material and present it on the cell surface to the T cells of the immune system. They act as messengers between the innate and the adaptive immune systems. Dendritic cells are present in those tissues that are in contact with the external environment, such as the skin and the inner lining of the nose, lungs, stomach and intestines.
