Ruby and Jadeite
Ruby and Jadeite of Burmese (Myanmar) origin may not be imported into the
USA. Ruby and Jadeite of non-Burmese origin requires certification before import
into the USA and it is the Buyer’s responsibility to obtain all relevant and required
export/import licences, certificates and documentation before shipping. Failure
by the Buyer to successfully import goods into the USA does not constitute
grounds for non payment or cancellation of the sale.

Clocks and Watches
All lots are sold “as is” and the absence of any reference to the condition of a
clock or watch does not imply that the Lot is in good condition and without
defects, repairs or restorations. Most clocks and watches have been repaired in
the course of their normal lifetime and may now incorporate parts not original to
them. Theodore Bruce makes no representation or warranty that any clock or
watch is in working order and a general service, battery or further repair work
may be necessary.

How to Buy at Auction
Before the Auction
Catalogues
Our auction catalogues are available in print and on our website. The on-line
catalogue will have photographs of every lot, including close ups of any relevant
detail.
Our lot descriptions provide such details as age, attribution, provenance, size,
etc; please make sure you refer to our Cataloguing Terms on page [x].
We provide an estimate for each lot, based on rarity, condition and the current
market conditions, but items may sell for more or less than our estimates. Lots
may have a reserve price, below which they cannot be sold; this reserve will
never be higher than the low estimate.
Viewing
Viewing times and locations are detailed at the front of the catalogue and on
our website. This is your opportunity to inspect items in detail.
Talk to our specialists
We are always happy to discuss any lot with you and answer any questions you
may have. The contact details for a particular auction are published in each
catalogue and on our website.
Condition Reports
Condition Reports are available upon request. They supplement the catalogue
description and provide guidance on the condition of a lot. They should be
obtained if you cannot view the item in person and have any queries. Please
send email requests to the auction administrator (details on the inside front
cover).
Symbols
Occasionally a symbol is printed next to a lot number, indicating a special clause
regarding the sale of that lot – you may come across the following at our
auctions:
+ GST on HAMMER, meaning this lot has GST included within the hammer
price
§ Artist copyright resale royalty, meaning that this lot is subject to an
artist’s resale royalty in addition to the hammer price and the buyer’s
premium.
During the Auction
Theodore Bruce offers all clients four options to bid at our auctions. However you
decide to bid, you will need to provide us with your contact details when you
register.
Bidding in the Room
Experience the excitement and fun of bidding at a live auction. To bid in person,
make sure you arrive with enough time to register for a bidding number, and if
you haven’t purchased with Theodore Bruce Auctions before you will need to
bring along some photo identification such as a driver’s licence or passport.
Telephone Bidding
If you can’t attend in person, a member of our staff will call you during the
auction and bid individually with you over the telephone, relaying each bid,
what is happening in the room, and will bid on your behalf as per your
instructions. Please note that telephone bids must be submitted at least 24 hours
before the auction and that on occasion telephone bids will be limited if the
auction is offsite. To organise a telephone bid, please refer to the telephone
bidding form on our website or at the viewing.
We make every effort to call you at the appropriate point in the auction, but if
we cannot get through you will not be able to bid. If you have changed your
mind and wish to cancel your bid, please contact us as soon as possible.
Absentee Bids
For an absentee bid you tell us the maximum amount you wish to bid on a lot.
The Auctioneer will then bid on your behalf, and will try to win the item for you as
cheaply as possible, subject to any reserve on an item and other bids. Please
note absentee bids must be received no later than 24 hours before the auction.
To organise an absentee bid, please refer to the absentee bidding form on our
website or at the viewing.
Online Bidding
Theodore Bruce Auctions offers a live online bidding service via our website. You
can watch the auction, listen to the Auctioneer and bid in real time.
To organise online bidding just follow the links from our on-line catalogue. Lots
purchased via the online bidding service are subject to an additional 3%
commission charged on the hammer price.
After the Auction
Your Final Invoice
If you are successful you will receive your invoice by e-mail; you pay the hammer
price of your lots, plus the buyer’s premium on each lot, together with any
additional applicable charges such as the Artist Resale Royalty or internet
bidding charge.
Payments must be made in full within two working days of the auction. Cheques
are accepted, but we reserve the right to wait for funds to clear before goods
are released. We also accept Eftpos, direct deposit or credit card (there is a
1.5% merchant fee for Visa and MasterCard and a 3.5% merchant fee for
American Express). Please note that credit card transactions will not be
accepted over the telephone.
Shipping
We can assist with the arrangement of shipping for an additional charge. Please
note that your purchases must be paid in full before shipping or postage will be
arranged.
Storage
All items must be paid for and collected within the collection times advertised for
each individual auction.
If items are not collected within this time-frame, Theodore Bruce Auctions
reserves the right to charge removal and storage fees.
