The City of Oakley is being hon-ored with a 2016 Playful City USA des-ignation.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the national recognition program hon-ors cities and towns across the country for making their cities more playable. The recognition is given to communi-ties that make it easy for all kids to get balanced and active play through pro-grams, policies and infrastructure.

    Oakleys playful endeavors include progressive planning efforts that ensure that each new residential development includes adequate play spaces; a Youth Empowerment Program that gives middle and high school students an op-portunity to have a voice in the plan-ning and implementation of programs and policies by their participation in the Oakley Youth Advisory Council;

and having been the first City in East Contra Costa County to install an all-abilities playground (universally acces-sible playground) that engages children of all abilities, through wheelchair ac-cess points and interactive areas for children with hearing or visual impair-ments.

As a city council, we have strived to provide an abundance of recreation programs and parks facilities and cel-ebrate this recognition as a Playful City USA community, said Oakleys Mayor Kevin Romick.

Oakleys geographic location pro-vides many recreation and play oppor-tunities through access to trails, parks, events, and recreational programs.

Make sure youre fully enjoying all that is available by visiting www.ci.oakley.ca.us.

Recent legislation authored by As-semblymember Jim Frazier (D Oakley) to help maximize opportunities for do-nations supporting the Special Olympics was approved by the assembly fl oor with a 75-0 vote.

For over a decade, I have been a part of the Special Olympics Northern California games by volunteering and supporting a charity that goes above and beyond to fulfi ll their mission, said Fra-zier. Ive personally seen the benefi ts and joy this event brings these athletes. The Special Olympics provides athletic oppor-tunities to numerous children and adults

with intellectual disabilities throughout the state, instilling the confi dence, self-esteem and dignity they need to succeed in life.

AB 2371 would allow individuals to make a voluntary contribution in excess of their tax liability to the Special Olym-pics Fund. These funds would be used to help the Special Olympics Northern and Southern California expand athletic opportunities for athletes that have been unable to participate due to limited re-sources.

AB 2371 will now move on to the senate for approval.

    MAY 27, 2016 ALL ABOUT PETS THEPRESS.NET | 7B

We checked out every resort that was in town before settling on Pets Frolic Inn, said a client, Tammy, in an online review. I loved it, because our dog would be outside most of the day and not cooped up in a kennel. She has gone mostly deaf and has arthritis in her back legs really bad - the staff knows this, and they go the extra mile to be accommodating to her. I could never imagine taking her anywhere else. I am so grateful for the care and love they show Peppermint each time.

Currently, Pets Frolic Inn is offering a free day of doggie daycare and a free nail trim with an overnight stay for new clients. They are also offering a Yelp.com special of $75 worth of services for $50. This fall, Wilhelm plans to begin construction on a new, state-of-the-art, larger play area, which will feature shade structures and pools.

Pets Frolic Inn is located at 4071 Orwood Road in Brentwood. For more information, call 925-634-4431, fax 925-516-4443, email [email protected] or visit www.petsfrolicinn.com or www.facebook.com/petsfrolic.

    Care from page 3B

They each get different things out of the experience, and they are gaining confi-dence, she said. The instructors are very good they are intuitive with the students, knowing when to push them a little more and when to give them a little more time. And they are very accommodating with our schedule.

Robyn Silvia, of Pleasanton, has known the owners for several years and wouldnt trust anyone else to take care of her now 18-year-old horse, Jessie.

She has some health issues, and they constantly check on the horses, she said.

The facility is well maintained and up to date. I could move Jessie closer to me, but I know shes safe with Bettike and her husband.

Tracy Jones two adopted mustangs have been living at Wild Rose for more than a decade.

While I was overseas in Afghanistan, I could be confident that they were being cared for, said Jones. Were blessed to have Charley as a trainer.

Wild Rose II Quarter Horses is located at 2601 Eden Plains Road, in Brentwood. For more information, call 925-679-8233.
