Amanda QuachPeriod 3Anti-SlaveryIf slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong- Abraham Lincoln. Slavery is our nations beginning, the way our government started, the way our land flourished and how we are religiously today but also a way we were troubled. Slavery was originally instituted by the European colonists in the 1700s and started with the people of Africa to introduce labor to America. For centuries, slavery developed as an establishment which became accepted by man-kind. However, to those who have served free labor, the institution has created soaring pains in many peoples hearts from the emotional scars by being torn apart. The Africans have been religiously taken from their own beliefs and given new thoughts by the slave owners. Also, the physical beatings and wounds of theses slaves have caused hopes to stray. Therefore, slavery is a horrendous burden in our society due to the emotional scars, religious brain-wash and physical beatings that are inflicted on these slaves. The establishment of slavery is demonic due to the malevolent causing of emotional scars and should be demolished completely. Slaves were generally ranging from the age 16-33, and it was believed that they were all children who needed a parent which was bestowed upon the slave-owners. Not knowing where they are going after being separated from their home, and forcefully pushed into a packed ship, while being told that cannibalism was going to be the death of them. My brothers and sisters were bid off first, and one by one, while my mother, paralyzed with grief, held me by the hand, was an experience given by Josiah Henson not only did he watch his mom grieving but also watched his brothers and sisters being taken away. Also being beaten and bruised by a whip to the back if retaliation occurs even a slight bit. The pain in the event of slave auctions where human beings are being torn from their own family, friends and loved ones and being sold off to work for free in the scorching sun from before sunrise to after sunset. As a result, causing pain and sorrow to thousands of human beings who were sold off as slaves and giving not only one but, many reasons to stop the slavery, the imposed agony and the reflective scars.Religion and belief is a huge part of society today and unfortunately was mischievously converted in a way to believe that was efficient for the master. Though slavery was justified by using science and the Bible, the rules were maliciously manipulated by the slave-owners to their own comfort. It is unbearable to think that all slaves had to work day and night from Monday to Saturday, having only Sunday as a break but even still it was mandatory to go to church on Sundays. What they learned was unspeakable and sadly lasted for centuries. Only learning of things only related to Christianity and of ways that made it easier for the slave owner to control the slaves. Some slaves even tried resisting in the least possible ways such as singing religious slave songs with secret messages of escaping, one line read got one mind for the boss to see; got another mind for what I know is me. Having been stripped of all their thoughts on what their real aspects were. Not knowing where to go, the slave owners take advantage of the slaves and send them to a priest who tells them that they were born to be a slave. He was raised to believe that to be a house servant was the greatest honor that could come of them. Isnt it cruel enough to having been forced to not only work under an anonymous person without pay, but to be deprived of your own religion? Imagine yourself as a slave and a European colonist comes up to you saying that they are taking your religion away and now you can only believe this or else youre a dead man with the devil inside of you, its horrific. Its dreadful that people from the same acreage can be so willing to give a physical beating to another just because something done was unpleasant to them. These slaves are given housing and are fed under the master to make a living, but these offerings mean nothing and let slaves consider having the daily thought of running away and committing suicide. Always having to whipped, beat and bruised to the point that suicide was a common thought. The servants not only gave in much of their effort but also put aside all the religious, physical and emotional pain that has crossed to their path. In return, they are given a whip to the back, being forcefully fed against their will, having to live in a cramped headquarters with other slaves and sleeping on cold wood which was not comfortable at all. On the ship where slaves are being brought about to the colonies, you can see the pride fading away as men are chained by the neck and women are tied together. Whenever having the thought of running away, the picture of being killed on the spot by paterollers (patrollers) comes to mind. Always having a huge fear not just dying but living as well, for the pain which was given to these slaves were intolerable and should have been stopped earlier.Slavery, the worlds burden emotionally, religiously and physically. Having a scar in your heart and a weight over your chest by being snatched from your home and family. Having to forget everything you believe, leave it behind and being forced to learn a new system to accept and follow. Experiencing mass amounts of pain from head-to-toe by the whippings and chains of the masters. How would you feel if you were a slave? Informing you this hopefully shows mentally about a small portion of the pain that a slave goes through because more people need to know in order to stop the establishment of slavery. I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person.-Harriet Tubman. Imagine how difficult it was to live a lifetime that you dont recognize anymorethat was the life of a slave.
