Indigenous Peoples Opposed to the Brish Columbia Treaty Process STATEMENTTOTHEB.C.  ASSEMBLY OFFIRSTNATIONS: June28,2012  __________________________________ _____________ WeareheretodayasGrassroots Peopleswhoareopposedtotheunjust andillegal BritishColumbia TreatyProcess. Thisisaprocessof   Aboriginal TitleandRightsextinguishment nomatterif thetermsusedare “certainty”, “nonassertionof rights” ormodi iedrights”, theresult isthesame,theeliminationof  our  Aboriginal TitleandRightsassovereignIndigenous Nationsandsurrender tothelawsof BCand Canadatobecomemerelyethnicmunicipalities andCanadiancitizens. TheB.C. TreatyProcessgivesunfairadvantagetothe“YES”sidewithin ourIndigenous communities andNations.  Allof thehundreds of millions of dollarsinfunding ,legal, technical andadvisorysupport goestotheChiefsandCouncils, Staff andNegotiators whoareultimately investedingettinga “YES”votefromthePeoplestoFinalTreatySettlement offersfromtheBC&Federal governments. Werepresent not onlythe“NO”sideinthevotesheldinLheidli T’enneh, Tsawwassen andthoseopposedtotheTla’aminTreatyvote,but wealsogivevoicetothoseIndigenous Peoplesopposed to theBCTreatyProcessthroughout therest of theBCregion. OURPOSITION: Wecallforanimmediatehalt toall“Treaty” votesthroughout theBCregion, until thenegotiationstoreformthefederal Comprehensive ClaimsPolicyhaveconcluded between  Assemblyof  First NationsComprehensive ClaimsWorkingGroupandtheGovernment of Canada. Wecallforopenforumsthroughout theBCregiontobeheldforallinterestedIndigenous Peoplestodiscussacomparisonof thekeyclausesofferedbytheBCandFederal governments at  various “TreatyTables”that negatively impact the  Aboriginal TitleandRightsof Indigenous Nations. Wecallforanendtotheuseof theracist “Doctrineof Discovery” bytheBCandFederal governmentsasjusti icationforthetheft of Indigenous landsandresources. WecallforallBCregional Indigenousleaders tofullyrespect andimplement theUnitedNations DeclarationontheRightsof Indigenous Peoplesinanyprocessaffectingthe  Aboriginal Title, RightsorSovereignty of anyIndigenous communityorNationintheBCregion, including the right toFree, PriorInformed Consent (Article28). WeareheretodayasGrassrootsPeopleswhoareopposedtotheunjust andillegalBritishColumbi

Thisisaprocessof  AboriginalTitleandRightsextinguishment nomatterif thetermsusedare

“certainty”,“non‐assertionof rights”ormodi iedrights”,theresult isthesame,theeliminationof 

our AboriginalTitleandRightsassovereignIndigenousNationsandsurrendertothelawsof BCan

Wecallforopenforumsthroughout theBCregiontobeheldforallinterestedIndigenousPeo‐

plestodiscussacomparisonof thekeyclausesofferedbytheBCandFederalgovernmentsat

tions.
