What magazines belong to the music magazine genre ?

• These magazines are all based on music and have a particular icon from music as their main image for the magazine cover, this is similar for most music based magazine covers.

Identify the target audiences for a range of magazines using NRS?

It seems like the target audience for the ‘Kerrang’ magazine which is a music magazine would be readers between the ages of 15-34 and people within the working class are more likely to buy the magazine.

How do they differ in terms of target audience ?

• My magazine and the Kerrang magazine doesn’t really differ because my magazine is aimed at people between the ages of 15-25 and will be more attractive for the middle class and the working class. The only difference would be that the main genre for the magazine because the genre of the Kerrang magazine is rock where as my magazine is much more general.

What is the name of the magazine that is similar to your target audience ?

• The name of the magazine that is similar to my target audience is the “Rolling Stone” because this magazine looks at music in the same way I do and it presents information in a format that will be similar to my magazine.

Who is their target audience?

• The “Rolling Stone” magazine’s target audience are people who have a general interest in music because the content within the magazine is quite broad unless it is an exclusive edition.

Who is the publisher? What else do they produce? How might your product fit into their portfolio?

• The publisher of the ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine is Jann Wenner, my magazine would fit into her portfolio because although her genre of music is much more selected my magazine has a much more general genre on music.

What musical genre/s does it cover?

• The main genre for the Kerrang magazine would be Rock where as the genre for my magazine is quite broad.

Pick an article from more than one different music genre and compare and contrast ? • The two magazines are “Kerrang” and the “Match”, the

‘Match’ is based on sports, mainly football. Where as the ‘Kerrang’ magazine is based on rock music. The ‘Match’ uses a variety of 1st and 3rd language because some parts of the magazine want to include the reader directly. Where as the ‘Kerrang’ magazine was solely 3rd and is mainly informing the reader of the latest stories of the rock world.

What different feature articles are included ?

• The different features of he magazine are shown on the cover of the magazine for example most of the cover lines on the cove of the ‘Kerrang’ magazine are titles to different features in the magazine.

What proportion of pages is given to each type of feature article?

• It Depends on how important or how much information there is on the featured story is, so a story with low importance or exclusivity might only occupy 1 page where as a story with high importance might take up 2 pages.

What does the advertising say about the audience?

• The advertising gives me the idea of what interests the audience because the magazine advertises should know their known quantity or what the readers are interested in before they stat advertising the magazine. For example people who are interested in rock music tend to be intrigued by advertisements that consist of rock bands or rock related stories.

What are the consistent features of that give the magazine a house style? (design/layout etc.)

• Some of the features of the magazine that stay consistent are the font of the Mast head, for example the ‘Kerrang’ magazines font is always bold and italic. The design is always the same as there is always a picture in the middle of the cover page with the cover lines surrounding it.

How would you describe the ‘mode of address’?

• The mode of address for the ‘Kerrang’ magazine was informal as the magazine is aimed at young people who are interested in rock music so it might be better to use words like “metallica”.

What proportion of the pages is given over to advertising?

• The ‘Kerrang’ magazine does not have any particular pages for advertisement as the advertising is spread across the magazine.

What is the cover price? Does it have a website why is this useful?

• There isn’t a cover price for the front cover of the magazine however it does have a website which updates weekly with information about present and future magazines to come as well as the top stories within the magazine.

How frequently is the magazine released?

• New editions of the magazine are released weekly with new stories about information happening within the world of rock.

How is it different from other music magazines

• Because some magazines might be more exclusive so it might be released once a fortnight or even once a month, or some magazines might be released every few days however those type of magazines depend hugely on the most exclusive stories.
