ANSA v13.1.1 Release Notes December 2010

1. Introduction

This document contains all information about features improvement, new features added and problems fixed during development of ANSA from version 13.1.0 to version 13.1.1.

NOTES:

•ANSA databases saved by ANSA v13.1.1 can be opened by v13.1.0 but NOT by older ANSA versions.

2. What’s new in v13.1.1Enhancements – New Options – New Features

GENERAL

Measure Different colors for different stored measurement entities is supported. This can be achieved by editing the color through the MEASUREMENT list within the DB-Browser.

In the edit card of the Measure tool, the following have been added:

• The coordinates (x, y, z) of the first and second points, if the measurement is distance.

• The normal vector (dx, dy, dz) if the measurement is the distance between faces or shells.

Quality Criteria

The quality criteria index, displayed in Hidden mode, has now been enhanced with more options:

- “Show”, “Hide”, “Show Only”, to leave visible only the elements that violate a specific criterion.

- “Edit Value”, to re-define the range of the criterion directly, without accessing the F11 card.

- “Hide Inactive Criteria”, to hide any criteria that are not enabled.

Database Browser

Color edit Modify

Massive modification of colors is supported by right-click on the color column header using one of the available options: "Change color" or "Random color".

Pasting in the filter field a string that contains either a “tab” or a “new line”, they are now treated as delimiters and therefore, an accepted expression can be structured.

CAD Data Translators

Support of new features in the libraries:

• CATIA V5 R20 files.

• Pro/Engineer Wildfire 5.

• Attributes of the free geometry entities, Points and Curves, whose names can now be also transferred.

Code enhancements:

– Reading of Composite Curves.

– Support of Dlv format translation.

New option added "Force single part".

Added the options -single_part / -notsingle_part in CT based translators, in order to avoid translating the whole hierarchy of assemblies. Also, this is written in the ANSA.defaults file a TRANSLATORS_SINGLE_PART.

Data Management

The option DM browser has been added in the Windows>Options>Settings, to facilitate the “Don't report part names for Dbs saved before v13.1.0”.

Compare

The user can navigate to the next/previous difference, by using the navigation buttons on the top left corner of the window. By pressing the single arrow buttons the user goes to the next or previous difference. To skip differences of the same type, and go directly to the next or previous difference of other type of entity, the user can press the double arrow buttons

For further filtering among the differences, the user can take advantage of the Advanced view options window, activated from the respective button at the top left corner of the window

Using this window, the user can isolate among the different entities, only the ones of interest. Also among the attributes of each entity, the user can select to see only the most important ones.



Exporting the differences

Having compare to models, the user has the capability to create a report of the Parts with differences. This report is created based on the comparison ANSA has made, and also with the aid of META Post tools, that allow the creation of a full .ppt presentation report

File>Export diffs, from within the Compare Report window.

Export files dir: This directory will be used for saving all the essential for the report material, such as pictures of the models.

MetaPost Command: The user must define the location of the META Post executable.

MetaPost script file : This is the suitable script file that will be used to create the report in META Post.

Ansa script file: Optionally, the user can omit the use of a META Post script file, and use a user defined ANSA script file.



TASK Manager

Added the seatbelt tool in Task Manager.

PART Manager

At functions “Identify” and “Set”, the Parts Manager became hidden for easier selection. Now, this can be enabled/disabled by the user, through Utilities>Options, which actually opens the Windows>Options>Settings at the new section “Part Manager”.

Volume Mesh scenario supports now the option to mesh with HEXAPOLY generator. 20510

TOPO

FACES SKIN

The control of the decimals kept during the offset of the faces, can now be defined in ANSA.defaults file, at the option SKIN_THICKNESS_DECIMALS. The value is an integer from 0 to 17. Also, the defined number of decimals are also transferred to the thickness value of the property.

FLANGE>TOPO

New function that spots the compatible faces, trims them and then applies TOPO, deleting also the one group of compatible faces.



MESH

PERIMETERs Perimeters>Number:Add option in ANSA defaults to save previous used settings.

MACROS SIMPLIFY: Added the flag “Stop at geometry errors”.

GRIDs MOVE>Normal: The vector that each grid used to be moved was according to each element's normal, at cases of grids which describe closed loop. Now, a plane is considered from the grids to acquire its normal for the movement of all grids of the loop.

MESH GEN. The sub-options of all mesh generators “Visible” and “Select”, now they do not affect FE models, only geometry. Also, the sub-option “Re-Generate” has a flag button in Options window, which enables/disables this operation. The default value is OFF.

SHELL MESH RECONS: Respects the layer bounds at Laminate properties.

ELEMENTs SPLIT>Shells

The right click functionality has been enhanced at neighboring tria elements, to perform edge swap or join.

VOLUMEs LAYERS now recognize adjacent surfaces even if they are not included in the layers generation.

LAYERS: When the generation results to Excluded or Collapsed areas, these areas are placed in a set.

HEXA BOXES JOIN: Now, all the affected volumes are deleted when box-joints take place. 22882

HEXA MESH SPACING of Hexa Blocks can now be applied on individual selected edges, not necessarily to all parallel, if the option “Select parallel edges” in the Options window is de-activated."

• Upon activation of the function, the option “Allow parallel edges selection” can be enabled/disabled within the Options window. This, will allow the user to select individual edges or all the parallel to this , by picking one edge.

• Length window has now two more options to control the distortion distance & angle.

NUMBER, now supports the option to apply “Multiple number” on the selected edges.

MESH: The “Projection Tolerance” options are now kept every time the function is used.

DECKs

ELEMENTs UTIL > Reinforcement to Beam enhancements:

• Upon confirmation of the initial selections, the function gets to an edit mode, so that the user can modify (add/remove) the recognized perimeters as triple bounds.

• Follows an acceptance window of the created cross sections and the corresponding line elements, while being in preview mode.

• Then, a window asks whether to keep or delete the original macros/elements.

Also, the created cross sections are now oriented according to the average of the normals of each macro/element and they do not follow one of them.

AUXILIARIES RESULTS_MAPPER

The “Align Mesh” tab has been enhanced with new options and features:

• “Auto Align”, aligns the source mesh with the target.

• “Manual Position” tool, enables the user to make manual movements of the parts, when the Auto Position option is not active. The tool can optionally be used when “Preview Position” is pressed.

• The transformation matrix can now be interactively controlled i.e., typing values directly in the fields are accepted and implemented.

• When pressures are mapped, the tool always creates Pload4s.



RENUMBER When renumbering is applied and entities that will be renumbered belong to a range, the user has the options to:a. continue renumbering without changing the ranges b. Convert the Set definition to a Set on Entities and not ranges by checking the relevant column ("ConvertSet Range to Entities") on "Error in definition of Numbering Rules" pop up window.c. Cancel renumbering.

LAMINATE New features are now supported in Laminate Report:– ABD matrix per PCOMP– Weight and Area info for each layer of the sequence– Total Weight and Area per Material– Calculate the mass of the PCOMP that will be generated 20480

For Laminate properties the Shell Mesh>Reconstruct respects the layer bounds.

INCLUDES New option to load all the Include files within a directory.

The SHOW and SHOW ONLY of the OUT OF INCLUDES, now work for the entities and not for Properties and Materials. In addition, the “Show Materials” and “Show Properties” reside now under the Options menu.

Safety

Safety group entities are now available in the Database browser lists for selection (e.g. to create Sets).

The Front and Side reference lines, can be created with branched curves instead of continues. The option respective flag button resides in the “Advanced” options.

Added option 'Write out Headform Set Definition' in multi point positioning of Pedestrian and Fmvss201u. Also, user is warned if one of FMH, or FIZ or Trim Set of Fmvss201U does not contain any shells or solids.

Fmvss201U: Added the options Save as New, Save Position and Select from List, for Move to Position.

Target Point: Added the field “CONTACT DIST” for the Fmvss201u test. It represents the distance between the FIZ node and the Target Point, which is automatically inserted in the field as soon as the “Save Position” is pressed.

Pedestrian : The creation of raster points is followed by the creation of corresponding Target Points

General *SECTION_ ID numbering schema

It is now possible to preserve *SECTION ID different than the *PART ID. This can be achieved by enabling the respective setting in ANSA.defaults:

Moreover, it is allowed to specify the rules of the *SECTION ID based on the Section's attributes, i.e. Thickness, ELFORM, NIP, etc etc.

Once the DynaSectionNumSchema is enabled in ANSA.defaults the ANSA Property card for LS-DYNA (*PART & *SECTION) has the USER_SECID switch option.

Based on the above Numbering Schema settings the SECTION_SHELL ID comprised of 7 digits:

position 1: 2 (for Section Shell)

position 2-3: EE two digits for the ELFORM

position 4-5-6-7: Tttt four digits for the Thickness; 2 decimals (defined by tt)

Thus, the SECTION ID of the depicted example will be: 2060261 , ONLY if the NIP=5 (in other case SEC_ID=PID)

as it is reported in the ANSA info is when the Property is edited:

Once the USER_SECID=YES, no *SECTION_ datacards are exported!

Mind that all previous tailored defined settings for this special SEC_ID treatment are still supported.

ELEMENT UTIL>Reinforcement to Beam: The function is now available in this deck too.

Output The keyword SECTION_SHELL is now written out as SECTION_SHELL_TITLE instead. The same applies for SECTION_PROP_TITLE where PROP can be any of the BEAM, DISCRETE, SEATBELT, SHELL, SOLID, SPH, TSHELL. However, these are available only with version 970 or newer. versions.

Materials Support of new options in the following material types:

MAT_FABRIC, added the X0 and X1 fields.

CABLE_DISCRETE_BEAM, adda the TMAXF0, TRAMP, IREAD and OUTPUT fileds.

MAT_ANISOTROPIC_VISCOPLASTIC, the ALPHA field is a float between the 0.0 and 1.0.

MAT_SIMPLIFIED_RUBBER, has now the fields REF, PRTEN and PR/BETA.

MAT_OGDEN_RUBBER: ANSA displays an error message “material data between columns 11 and 20 ingored” for the last/sixth card of the GI/BETAI lines, but ANSA actually reads them correctly.

FLUENT 2D CHECKs:

Added new check “CONS WITHOUT BC” that finds outer (free) perimeters or edges without a BC assigned on them.

LOADINGChanges at NLLOAD definition via TABLE List:

– The default exporting option is now $NLLOAD TABLE-LIST, unless the user specifies time delay data in the LPAT dialog box. Then, $NLLOAD GENERAL is defined.

– Curve Names are now defined as comment and they are preserved during import.– Plot NLLOAD: In case of more than 6 curve definitions, the window is not split in

3. Known Problems resolved in v13.1.1

GENERAL

File>Open VDA-FS: in particular cases 3D points were not visible after reading the vda file. However, by double enable/disable their visibility via the Database browser made them visible.

File>Open Long unaccepted delay in opening ANSA file, while in 'ANSA info' window the message “Code generation completed” was displayed many times.

Connections Databases with certain connection types could not be opened in HP Operation Systems. Also, in Linux, AIX and SUN, illegal exit occurred when some connection variables were modified.

RENUMBER When merging databases, Connections Rules were not merged as well. From now on Connections Rules will be merged to wider range.

Translation Databases translated from NX to IGES or STEP with specified very small tolerances, resulted in problematic surfaces.

Occurred wrong reading of STEP file, where some faces were missing and some did not have proper shape.

Column that referred to a field of a card (e.g. PID->Name), disappeared when switching to another Deck and then opened the list again.

Rare crash when 'Save Visible As' was pressed and the database had a measurement that used a curve point and the curve was not visible.

Measurement In case a local coordinate system was defined on element edge, the opening of the edit card of the measure entity resulted into crash.

GUI When deletion of User Module menu (defined in mesh menu) was applied, the Options window did not disappear and no redraw took place.

AutoPositionInstance did not copy surfaces in order to ensure that there would not be problems in case a surface was used from different faces that belonged to different parts.

Upon activation of the “Output directory”, a misleading warning message showed. This occurred in GUI mode with NX(UGOpen) or NX(CT).

Part files that contain geometry were shown as empty if -notflatten option was used for translation.

Parts Manager

A model with Multi-Instance parts that had previously realized its connections, after re-applying synchronization, all connections were realized. Now, only already realized connections will be re-applied.

A new part was moved in the Group of parts with Realized connections (status OK). After that, their status was lost.

In case a part (in pixmap drawing) referred to CBEND with wrong PBEND values, ANSA crashed.

In some cases "Name" and "Module Id" were changed (due to conflicts) during input without updating the part manager. So different parts were shown in the window with the same name without being instances.

Compare from file:

When collecting nodes to be exploded from connection entities, certain nodes were left out.

When the functions “Identify” and “Set” were used, after the selection from screen the display mode of Parts Manager was switched.

CONVERT Realized Nastran CWELDs in Pid definition, when converted to connection points, the number of resulted connections was not equal to CWELDs'.

When a cluster of solid elements not in ideal rows was converted, the results were bad.

Spot Weld FEMFAT SPOT representation had different diameter than the specified in the corresponding field, after realization.

Bolts When the searching option “Attach To/Search Dist” was selected, nodes of distance two times than the specified were found.

Connection Manager

AUTO button with option Visible, did not recognize any parts/properties to assign to the connections if the visibility flag FE was off. That happened only in meshed macros.

Representations When Rbe2-Celas1-Rbe2 failed due to property failure, in some cases connection's status was set wrongly to “Projected”. That led to crash, if another Node-to-Node representation was applied for that connection.

RBE3-CBUSH-RBE3: If one connection failed to realize due to wrong property pid, all the following connections were not realized too.

RBE3-CBEAM-RBE3: Crash occurred when apply connections and at least one connection had wrong pid i.e. It did not correspond to PBEAM property.

NASTRAN CWELD: The option “Point to patch” was not applicable to take as point grids of solid elements, for “ELMID” type.

RBAR-SHELL: When one or all of the connecting macros were meshed with 2nd order elements, caused ANSA to crash.
