Anorexia Nervosa

• An eating disorder• People usual have obsession with

being abnormally thin and have a distorted view of themselves

• Serious mental illness• Anorexia in it’s simplest broken down

Signs and Symptoms

• Rapid and dramatic weight loss• Obsession with fat and calories• Dieting despite being thin• Distorted perception of themselves • Depression• Isolate themselves

Triggering Factor

• Studies have shown that many people cut back on food and lose weight, and that gives them motivation to cut back eating even more. Weight loss seems to be the triggering factor for anorexia.

Target

• Majority of anorexic people are younger and are females. They are generally the most self conscious and feel the greatest pressure to be thin.

• Not all anorexic people are young and female.

3 Step Treatment

• 1) Getting the person back to a safe and healthy weight

• 2) Treating her mental illness and getting the person to see themselves normally

• 3) reducing thoughts and behaviors related to anorexia

• 90% of anorexic people are female• 40% of anorexic people are females

between 15 and 19 years of age.

Influences

• Many younger girls feel pressure to be thin. They feel like they need to be perfect because they see famous people in magazines and models on runways who are stick thin. They don’t realize that the magazines are photoshopped, and the models are just as self conscious as the rest of us. Most runway models suffer from anorexia or bulimia.
