Resource ReportJuly 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011

Anoka-Ramsey Community College1

Anoka-Ramsey Community College cares about the state and the communities it serves.

As a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, Anoka-Ramsey Community College was established in 1965 in a wing of Centennial High School in Circle Pines with 600 students.

Today, Anoka-Ramsey has two main campuses: the Cambridge Campus with approximately 115 acres along west Highway 95 on the Rum River, and the Coon Rapids Campus with approximately 103 acres on the Mississippi River, 20 miles north of downtown Minneapolis. The college also brings courses and programs into the community at 13 off-campus locations. Anoka-Ramsey served more than 12,500 students in the 2010-2011 academic year.

Since recordkeeping began in 1968, approximately 186,285 people have taken courses at the college, from short-term training/certificate programs, two-year, four-year and graduate degree programs, to KID U/College for Kids, Professional Training and Alumni Association programs.

Nick FerraroGraduate: Associate of Arts

Transfer: University of St. Thomas, St. Paul: Bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism and English minor Current Job: Reporter, St. Paul Pioneer Press

“ I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life until I started taking Journalism classes at Anoka-Ramsey and writing for the school paper. The school’s slogan at the time was, ‘Anoka-Ramsey: It’s a Great Place to Start.’ I still truly believe that.

I excelled in the Journalism and English classes and that gave me the confidence to stay in school and on the right path.

Without the start I received at Anoka-Ramsey, I probably would not have finished college. And, with the job market the way it is, a college degree is more important than ever.”

Buy-a-Brick ProgramSusan Lorenz, Nursing program alumna, was the first person to sign-up for a brick in the new Buy-A-Brick program at the Cambridge Campus.

Buy-A-Brick supporters purchase a 4x8” brick with an engraved, personalized message.

A $250 donation purchases one of the limited number of bricks on the outer ring of the ellipse on the East River Courtyard

A $100 donation receives a brick in the center of the ellipse on the East River Courtyard

The engraving on the brick could be the name of a family member, a student or alumni and year of graduation, a business name or the name of a loved one, or in honor of someone special.

The brick becomes a permanent legacy and offers an affordable way to raise funds for the scholarship of your choice.

For more information about the Buy-a-Brick program, contact Foundations Executive Director, Marc Johnson [email protected] or 763-422-6112.
