YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!BECOME A VOLICE
FOR THE UNDOCUMENTED
One of the most important prin-ciples of Catholic Social Teaching is: “ The dignity of every human person.” The Bishops have ad-dressed this in their more recent document: “Strangers No Longer: Together On the Jouney of Hope” [email protected] . For the last few weeks a few of our parishioners have come togeth-er in an effort to become more in-formed on thr plight of estimated eleven million undocumented im-migrants in our country; many, who have become our neighbors and friends. Several parishes in the Archdio-cese of Detroit have established teams to work with and for immi-grants. Saturday afternoon, April 28th 1:00-6:00 at U of D /Mercy Ignatius Chapel there will be a re-treat based on helping parishes to form parish teams to keep the mo-mentum going. If you feel you could give a little time to finding some resolution to this issue, please contact the Faith Formation Office 313-382-1818

What have you in-vited them to (Christian service, Eucharistic minister, choir, lector, usher,….)?

Youth Ministry Corner Subiaco Retreat Reflections Our high school youth experienced an amazing weekend of prayer, community and fun at the Subiaco Retreat Center. We would like to share some of their reflections with you over the next few weeks: One part that I think helped me grow spiritually was talking in our small groups. It was nice communicating with one another face to face and relating and growing more of a connection. I enjoyed this weekend – it was truly a great experience. ~ Carly Desrosiers, sophomore!I really enjoyed going outside and enjoying the scenery here. I also really enjoyed the song we sang. On a more spiritual note, I feel like I have grown much closer to God from this. ~ Paige Wlodkowski, sophomore! This experience made me realize what peace really was and helped me to look at life differently. ~ Dean Nash, sophomore!CYO Camp Clean-up Weekend
The CYO Camp Clean-up Service Project in Port Sanilac, Michigan, a Teen Forum favorite, will be held April 20th-22nd this year. Camp Cleanup weekend is free and open to all youth who are willing to work for their food. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors while serving the kids who will be attending the camp in the summer. Permission slips and medical release forms are required and must be turned in by Monday, April 16th. Pick them up at our Teen Forum meeting, on the bulletin board, or on the Teen Forum! Facebook page. We ask parents to please consider helping with the driving and to experience CYO Camp with us and your teen! Teens on Mission: 2018 Summer Mission Trip
This summer we are planning a special mission trip to Omaha Winnebago, Nebraska (June 23rd – 30th) with Young Neighbors in Action (YNIA), an amazing organization whose goal is to provide high school age youth with a week-
long experience of participating in mission, growing in faith, joining in prayer, and serving those in need. During this week, young people will engage with each other in meaningful liturgies, prayer, and cultural experiences. YNIA provides mission experiences of working with children, doing manual labor, and working at agencies that provide resources to the most vulnerable. It is the hope of YNIA that youth will discover the connection between faith, service, and justice through interactive evening experiences filled with learning, reflection, and fun! If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, contact Holly in the Parish Office. We are looking to secure spots by mid-April which will require a non-refundable $50 deposit from each participant. World Youth Day Panama Updates Trivia Night Challenge: The 2019 World Youth Day Pilgrims will be sponsoring a Trivia Night Challenge on Saturday, May 5th, beginning at 6pm in the gym! The cost is $20 per person (includes dinner and trivia). For dinner, we are planning a delicious “Cinco de Mayo” Mexican meal! You can reserve a table for a team of up to 8 people, or come with a smaller group (or even by yourself – we’ll set you up with a team). Some fun prizes will be awarded to the team who answers the most questions correctly. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a ton of fun, so start gathering your teammates now! Tickets will be sold in the gathering area the weekend of April 21-22 and 28-29. You can also call Holly in the Parish Office! Prayers and Pilgrim Feet for Panama: Over the Easter season, we will be inviting you to sponsor our youth going to World Youth Day, Panama and to have your prayer requests taken with us to be blessed by Pope Francis. In the Gathering Area simply choose an envelope from the board and write your name and prayer requests on the “pilgrim footprint” inside. Place the footprint back into the envelope along with the sponsorship donation amount printed on the outside and return the envelope to the Parish Office or place it in the offertory basket during Mass. Know that we will be praying for you and your prayer requests throughout our time of preparation and at World Youth Day in Panama. When we return, you will be invited to a gathering to see photos and hear stories from our pilgrimage. As always, we greatly appreciate your support! While our Sunday collections are slightly over budget, the expenses are also somewhat over budget. Major expense cate-gories that are over include: Utilities, Building Repair & Remodel and Furniture & Fixtures. Review of Bank Statements
Committee members reviewed the November 2017 through February 2018 statements. 2018 CSA

the parish facilities. Parish Tithing
Decided to have this included as a line item in next year’s budget. Decided to publish in the Vigil in May and then on a quarterly basis.
Will ask the Parish Council for some potential candidates, which would be added to the Finance Council’s candidates, for consideration for donations as part of this program.
2018 Projects New Carpet for Church - Fr. Tony to contact three parish members to assist with this project Digitizing Archives - Fr. Tony has two parish teens who will work on this during the summer. The teens will be paid for their efforts. Bill will provide technical direction and coordinate their work.
Future of Convent - This was tabled at this time. New Business
Repairs to Building Doors - Larry mentioned that several of the church doors are experiencing issues. Fr. Tony sug-gested that it would be money better spent to replace the doors rather than repair them. The council members agreed, and we will be getting quotes for replacements.
Repairs to Parking Lot - Bill mentioned that there are significant cracks appearing in the asphalt. After reviewing the contract, he has attempt to contact the company who have yet to respond. Fr. Tony suggested that we get the engi-neering firm back involved. Bill will set up a meeting between all three parties.
Spring Fling
Bill mentioned that we have the tickets for the Spring Fling Raffle and they are being prepared for distribution. Fr. To-
Christ the Good Shepherd Weekly Vigil– www.christgoodshepherd.org Page 6
ny said that we will start the distribution on Palm Sunday weekend (March 24th - 25th).
John Paul II – No report Religious Formation – Bill reported
We have sponsored three short gatherings on our U.S. present situation on im-migration and how to work toward more just legislation. Two DACA recip-ients and Cindy Garcia from our parish shared their stories. It was quite an eye opener to those who attended. Last Sunday at Coffee and Donuts, again, the opportunity was given to ask questions and hear the stories. This chal-lenge is seen as a Christian and moral issue.
The Bishops have encouraged faith communities to get involved in working on this issue. They have written a pastoral letter: “Brothers and Sisters to Us All: Strangers No Longer.” All are encouraged to read and reflect on this.
Confirmation with Bishop Fisher: April 14th at 7:00 P.M. This year we have 36 candidates. We are working to get these young people involved in the Teen Forum and Liturgical ministries in the parish.
First Eucharist: May 6th at 2:00 P.M. with 33 children. RCIA: Five children will receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Rosary Around the World: May 8th – all are invited to share in this wonderful
prayer to Mary. It is followed by an ice-cream social. It is a little way to honor our First communicants.
Summer Program: Summer Camp: June 25-29 “Fidgeting: Faith…Friends…Fun” with Jesus.
A wonderful week for our middle schoolers. Vacation Bible School: July 9-13 “Olympic Gold” for primary children
(Kdg. – 5th grade) Registrations for the coming year in Faith Formation: Will be ready the end of
April. Encourage families with school age children to register. We always are looking for faith filled volunteers to be catechists/or catechist
aides for the coming year. Each year there are a few catechists/aides who cannot continue because of health or family responsibilities.
