Welsh National Flag

The red dragon (y ddraig goch) is an ancient symbol attributed by many to King Arthur, and certainly in use by the princes of Gwynedd in the medieval period.

According to legend Arthur had a dream of two dragons fighting.

The Saxon green dragon fought the red dragon of the Britons (that is the Celts who would become the nations of Wales, Cornwall, Cumbria and southern Scotland).

In the dream the red dragon fought back the green dragon - a premonition of the golden era of Arthur's

kingdom.
