Welcome To The New Annunciation Parish!
Uniting The Catholic Community of Newington * Established June 29, 2017
We extend a warm welcome to all new families/individuals. Our parish is nourished
by your presence. We hope you feel at home here, and want to make
Annunciation Parish YOUR parish.
Every family in the parish should be properly registered. New parishioners should register
at the Parish Office. Single adults over 21 years of age should register separately from parents.
It is necessary to be registered to arrange baptisms, marriages, enroll in Religious
Education classes, and to obtain sponsor certificates for baptism and confirmation.
All the FRIDAYS of Lent are days of ABSTINENCE.
What does that mean?
Catholics over 14 years of age are expected
to abstain from eating meat on the Fridays of Lent.

Classes will resume in the Fall on September 16, 2018
at JWMS for the 2018 – 2019 Religious Ed year.
Re-registration forms and calendars for the 2018 – 2019 Religious Ed school year
will be mailed out in May to new and returning families.
Palm Sunday - Readings & Reflections
First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7
The prophet has confidence that he knows how to comfort the
weary. He is ignored and mistreated like all the prophets before
him. He will have God’s help always.
Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11
Paul tells us how Christ totally emptied Himself for us. He became like
a slave. The key to His exaltation was His obedience to His Father.
The Passion According to Mark 14:1-15: 47, or 15:1-39
Judas Iscariot’s betrayal begins Mark’s account, ending with the
centurion’s confession, which echoes the gospel’s opening words.

Daly Notes…
Let me take this opportunity to welcome everyone who joins us this Palm Sunday for the
celebration of Mass and the beginning of Holy Week. Know you are always welcome here and
we hope you will come back to worship with us again.
The BIG news this week – it is HOLY WEEK! And it is our first Holy Week as Annunciation
Parish. This week is a special time for all of us as we celebrate the Passover of Jesus, through
death to new life, and renew our relationship with the Lord and His Church.
How will you spend this week? I hope you will join us on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and
Holy Saturday. The complete schedule of Holy Week services can be found below.
The Easter Season is a busy time in the parish’s life: First Communion (April 7th and April
21st), The Comedy Show (April 21st), plus a few other special events. I’ll share that with all of
you after Easter.
Have a Wonderful Holy Week!

MARCH 24 — REFLECTION
Before the events of that first Holy Week, Jesus retreated from the public to spend those final
hours with his disciples. All of us need to retreat to community at times before big decisions and
events in our lives. Consider sharing the many liturgies of this coming week with your family —
your church family. Together we celebrate the light that overcame all darkness and the
resurrection that conquered death. Lean on one another. As Easter arrives, may we stand boldly
and proclaim this Good News to the world.
► Do I take the time to retreat and allow the love and support of others to sustain me?

Annual Archdiocesan Mass of Remembrance
Join Us April 24th, 2018
The Mass of Remembrance is a time for reflection on the lives of our
children who have died from any cause. The causes are numerous but
the resulting emotions of pain, longing, and sorrow are the same.
Perhaps one of the most misunderstood and often overlooked losses is
of miscarriage. Too frequently it is seen as less than other deaths of children, but for those who
have experienced miscarriage, it is no less painful.
Parents wish these children to be remembered and the Mass of Remembrance provides this
opportunity. Please join us in praying for children who have died by miscarriage, illness, or any
cause, and for their families.
