From the Pastor’s Desk
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. I was so happy with all our
Masses and services over Easter - and, although I’m a bit tired, I am ener-
gized.
Today we hear about Thomas and his doubts. It’s normal to have
doubts, it is normal to know others who also doubt. Because Thomas doubted
did not make Jesus less alive. Because we may have doubts does not make
those things we doubt about less likely. Our doubts do not change reality.
Faith is a decision to believe when there are other options - and we do this all
the time. We “go with it” about things every day knowing that we will some-
day find out more about the subject. What our Lord asks of us is to have the
faith, to “go with it” and believe, and enter into his life. One day all will be
made clear.
Since last I wrote we have had School Board, Pastoral Council, and
Finance Committee Meetings. We discussed in School Board our enrollment
and plans to invite more families to be part of our school. We looked at the
beginnings of the budget process for next year, our school’s current financial
situation (which is stable), and upcoming fundraising activities. I already told
you of the plans to revamp the school’s math program (across all grades) and
the ways in which we continuously are looking to strengthen the school. In
Pastoral Council we reviewed feedback that was received on the current design
of the parish logo. We expect one final step to come to the final product -
thanks to all who contributed opinions. We also explored ways to approach
the Diocesan Capitol Campaign that you will be hearing about in the near
future and finalized the parish survey that you will also see soon. In Finance
Committee we looked at the current financial situation (our head is above wa-
ter). We spoke about some specific issues (e.g. sale of the old parish truck,
improvements to a few accounting issues, contracting for the lights in the
school, renovation projects, and advanced planning for payment of next year’s
oil bill). We established the budget process and will be beginning this soon to
be done ahead of time as we were able to do last year.
I continue to encourage you to be as involved as possible in the life of
the parish. Weekend Masses are essential for growing in depth of our faith
and in relationship with Jesus. Also I have seen a few new people at daily
Masses - these shorter Masses are a nice way to open our hearts to encounter
the Lord. Don’t forget Bible Study on Tuesday in English and Thursday in
Spanish. Think also about attending the special question and answer session
on the Mass on this Monday, April 29th, It is the final part of our year-long
effort to provide education regarding the Mass. If you have already attended
one of our other sessions, please feel free to come to clarify any lingering ques-
tions you may have. If you have not been to any of these, then this is a good
opportunity to listen and learn about this central activity of our Catholic Chris-
tian life.
With our Spring Festival coming, and more opportunities for educa-
tion we continue to move forward. Youth activities are on the way and other
groups are in the planning. Let’s all continue to work to build our parish as a
place where God is praised, the faith grows, and people come to find meaning
in their life while helping others. God be with you this Easter Season!
Peace,
Fr. Steve
Annunciation Parish Mission Statement:
Strengthened by the Eucharist, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent by Christ we seek by worship and service to compassionately
meet the corporal and spiritual needs of our parish family and beyond. We desire to warmly welcome the stranger and one another, and
together reach a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In doing this, we are committed to the caring and ongoing Christian formation of
others by providing opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, and social growth within our faith and local community.
For those who are new to the parish or returning after some time away, we would like to welcome you to our
Catholic community. In this bulletin you will find many opportunities to be enriched and involved. If you would
like to register as a member or have any questions, you can call us at 978-632-0253, email us at
[email protected], or you can stop by the Parish Office during the week.
