From the Pastor’s Desk

The union of Marriage is much more for us than a legal contract. It is a

Sacrament that helps to show the reality of God’s relationship to the peo-

ple, and Christ to the Church. We have high standards for marriage -

because Jesus had such high standards and regard for marriage (listen in

the Gospel). In so many ways there is a degrading in our society of this

important institution where two join into one by the power of God. Few

things have caused more confusions regarding Church teaching, and few

things are as sensitive and in need of a delicate and understanding

ear. If you have questions about marriage, or have concerns about a

marital situation, or feel that you have been misunderstood or left out -

please contact Fr. Ramos, myself or Deacon Paul and Lorraine (who as-

sist in marriage prep). We would like to help you clarify any confusion

and help to straighten out any situations.

Don Robinson and I met with the architect regarding the issue of handi-

cap access at Holy Spirit. After a site review and a few minutes with the

blueprints, he offered some suggestions. He is going to work out what

this would entail so that I can discuss it with both Pastoral and Finance

Councils. I also asked him to begin the plans for the ramps that will make

the Holy Rosary Hall handicap accessible; after these are in we can look

at beginning that work.

We had a good turnout for our “Guided Tour of the Mass” this past Mon-

day (about 50 people). I am very encouraged by the response to these

Educational and Faith Formation activities. We will keep working on them

and offering a diverse set of options for you. Additional activities from

now to the end of the year are found on the yellow sheets at the back of

the church (and also electronically on the website). We will be coming

out with another listing in a month or so explaining the activities that will

run from January to the summer.

In terms of prayer and reflection opportunities, women are invited to ex-

plore the “Sweet Life Cafe” - which is a day of reflection at the end of this

month - and/or the “Grit and Grace” Book Club (see details in bulletin and

website). Also, if you have not had the opportunity to come, we continue

to have a Mass with time for adoration and confessions on each first Fri-

day of the month (6:30pm at Holy Spirit). This is a nice way to decom-

press from the week, and it is an hour well spent.

Fr. Ramos and I have been discussing the continued development of our

parish ministries, parishioners continue to address the way the parish

was singled out during political maneuvering at City Hall, and we look to

continue to strengthen ourselves to do the work of Jesus Christ in our

community. God calls us to hear and to respond to the challenge to min-

ister to our neighborhood and the world, fills us with the tremendous gift

of the Eucharist to strengthen and empower us for this work, and speaks

His message of love to our hearts. It is our duty to praise and serve God,

and a great privilege too.

God be with you,

Fr. Steve

Upcoming Events

Grit & Grace

Our Women’s Book Club will meet on Monday, October 22

nd

at 7 p.m. in the Rectory at 135 Nichols St. to discuss

the first 6 chapters of My Badass Book of Saints: Courageous Women Who Showed Me How to Live by

Maria Morera Johnson. In this book the author shares her experience of strong who have given her an example

of how to live a faith-filled life and pairs each with saints who exhibits the same virtues. Please join us for a spirit

discussion about living our faith in imitation of these saints.

Living the Mass

Last week our priests begin taking a few moments at the Sunday Masses to explain a part of the Mass. If you would like to learn more

about making the Mass an important part of your life please pick up a copy of the book Living the Mass: How One Hour a Week

Can Change Your Life available at the back of both churches. This book by Fr. Dominic Grassi and Joe Paprocki reminds us that

the Mass can lead to a transformation of our lives if we allow it to. The book breaks down the parts of the Mass and looks at what they

have to teach us about growing closer to God in our everyday lives. If you find that there are no more copies available at the back of

church please contact the office and we will be happy to order you a copy the back of each church and will have a sign-up sheet avail-

able in case we need additional copies.

This week we have some reflection questions posted on our parish website that correspond to the first two chapters. Feel free to

check them out and comment on what you have read so far.

Come join us for pastries, themed bas-

kets, candy, Attic Treasures, children’s

games, silent auctions, and more!

Question of the Week

Question for Adults: What has your family taught you about God and living a faithful life? How do you show your family what

they mean to you?

Question for Youth: When you make a promise, why is it important to keep it?

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a journey of faith for those who wish to grow closer to

Jesus Christ through the Catholic church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucha-

rist. These sessions are appropriate for those who have never been baptized and those who grew up

in a different faith tradition who wish to convert to Catholicism. We also welcome the participation of

those Catholics who were baptized but received little to no instruction about the faith when they were

children and would like to make their first communion and/or confirmation. Sessions for adults and

young people over the age of 8 are beginning this month. If God is moving your heart to explore the

Catholic Church please give Mrs. Sweeney a call at (978) 632-0253.

Please Pray For:

Leonne Tagen, Al Watts, Larry Butler, Joan Besch, Mary Beth Brow, Tricia McKinley, Jacob Cormier, Elaine Shultz, Bernard Bevis,

Ashton & his Mom, Ricky Ruschioni, David Poulnot, Alice Page, the Becker Family, and Little Genevieve.

If you would like to add a person’s name to the prayer list, please contact Annunciation Parish at (978) 632-0253, ext. 110.

Names will be kept on the prayer list for 4 consecutive weeks. Please call the Parish Office if you would like to put a

name back on the list at the end of these 4 weeks.

For other prayers and special intentions, call our Prayer Line at (978) 632-2618
