as Christ has loved us and by extending this love and kindness
even to those who oppose us We really need to let our light shine
We can also bring a
friend to the Divine
Liturgy where the
Word of God is pro-
claimed not as an
intellectual exercise
but as a Living Pres-
ence We can come to
study the Word at the
Bible studies or we
can learn to make a
musical offering as a
chanter or choir sing-
er We can minister to
the less fortunate we
can visit the sick and
help provide meals for
those in need All of
the above and many
more are ways to pro-
claim the good news
We should not let a week go by without engaging in this effort
As we move along on our journey we often stray and find our-
selves in need of spiritual advice and support Do not hesitate to
come to me with any concernsmdashwe can address some through a
simple conversation or if you so desire we can bring them to the
Lord in the Mystery of Holy Confession
We also want to hear from you about any other concerns Do not
hesitate to bring them directly to me and I will try to resolve them
with the help of the Parish Council I hope that a few of you will
step up this Fall to continue the essential work of the Councilmdashthe
more people share over the years in this task the more meaningful
and representative it is for our community
May God bless you abundantly
+ Fr Costin
Dear Parishioners
We are beginning our second year to-
gether and I cannot tell you how pleased
I am with the level of enthusiasm and
participation in the community We
loom much larger than our roster indi-
cates good Sunday attendance very
active organizations large scale Festival significant chari-
table outreach enthusiastic fundraising
Of course we can always do better and I believe we will
We are starting our fall season with a major overhaul of
our choir in terms of introducing more accessible yet still
inspiring music and training new choir members (now is
the time to join) On the fundraising front we are giving
the final push to what we hope will be the first of many
major successful effortsmdashsee details on pages 14-16
We will resume our Tuesday evening small group gather-
ings by choosing a new host within each group we al-
ready established and adding new groups until we cover
all members Please contact me if you would like to host
this year
The main focus of a Christian community should always
be the proclamation of the Good News (the Euaggelion)
How can we do that We do that by loving one another

Prosforo An Offering of Faith Of the many ways of supporting our Church there are few which stand out as
uniquely personal offerings of faith The offering of Prosforo bread for the Divine
Liturgy is one of them We are thankful to all who have faithfully fulfilled this
responsibility and invite more of our faithful to make this a part of their lives as well

Dear Parishioners
After a hot dry and busy summer the cooler air of autumn is a welcome respite from summer ndash but the activity level at Annunciation is still very
high
My personal and heartfelt thanks to the many involved in Greek Food Festival (GFF) Planning committee the workshop organizers and many
participants and the dozens of adults teens and children who worked so diligently to ensure our festival was once again a rousing success
As everyone already realizes the proceeds from the GFF are crucial to the financial health of our Parish and this year we had another strong
showing of approx $68K in net profit per our Treasurer Gina Dussi But in addition to the financial resources the GFF provides our Church I
find myself in awe witnessing the camaraderie spirit of cooperation bonding and ldquoagaperdquo ndash familial love and respect ndash we all show each other
during the hard work of the festival and the many months preparing for it
In addition to the GFF a team of highly dedicated and ambitious Parishioners led by John Tsakirgis and Daphne Tikellis designed built and
manned a ldquogyro cartrdquo so hungry Yankee Homecoming revelers could ldquoeat Greek all weekrdquo It was another truly amazing nine day effort in addi-
tion to weeks of detailed prep work that resulted in money destined to reduce our Churchrsquos mortgage debt Our hats off to the gyro team ndash for
their amazing hard work and effort for our beloved Church
If you missed our celebratory boat cruise on August 7 it was an evening of good cheer and a way to enjoy the gorgeous seacoast scenery beautiful
weather but mostly each otherrsquos company as we celebrated another successful festival
We will hold a GFF feedback meeting after Liturgy on Sun Sept 11 to generate your feedback on what went smoothly during the 2016 festi-
val and what could be improved for next year This will serve as a kick-off to GFF 2017 After all ldquono rest for the wearyrdquo
In another amazing mortgage reduction initiative Tina Papadopoulos is leading a team of dedicated Parishioners in attracting a national act
Ariana Savalas daughter of actor Telly Savalas to our Parish on Sat Oct 1 2016 for a night of ldquoCabaret and all that Jazzrdquo which promises to
be a memorable evening ndash so please get your tickets and reach-out to the committee to volunteer
The love for our Parish abounds I often stand in admiration as I witness the energy and creativity of our Parishioners and what we are able to
accomplish as a relatively small Parish including the quiet ldquobehind the scenesrdquo work necessary to keep our Church ldquohummingrdquo For example the
dedicated St Basilrsquos Ministry team who week after week prepare a hot delicious and nutritious meal for the less fortunate in our community
Led by Don Argyrople the team of Mike Murphy Mary amp Chris Dollas Peter Mamakos and other dedicated volunteers provide a true
example of Christian charity
Along with my fellow Parish Council members we look forward to continuing to serve you our Parishioners Father Costin the Boston Metropo-
lis and the Archdiocese of America My personal thanks to all for making the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church a wonderful place to wor-
ship
Respectfully submitted

Annunciation Meals Ministry
Jen Jansen is our meals ministry coordinator This program helps us feed our own parish families when unusual needs arise All details are on the website sign up By using the website we are able to keep track of when meals will be pro-vided with no overlapping deliveries of meals This really helps the receiving family so they dont get an overload one day and nothing on another day If you have questions please contact Jen Jansen Contact info and the website

We Need YOU Our Home Cooks program will resume one or two Sundays a month Home Cooks prepare one pan of the entreacutee of the week We usually look for 8 people to each take a pan and that will create a meal that will be served to anyone who comes to our free Monday Meal in St Basilrsquos Hall Jill Argyrople will have a recipe and a pan so each home cook can participate in preparing the following weekrsquos meal If you would like to help occasionally with this ministry please see Jill Argyrople
College Connection
A recent study of Orthodox young adults of all jurisdic-tions in America notes that 60 of young adults go off to college and never return to their Orthodox Christian roots This staggering statistic clearly indicates that the continuing existence of our churches in America is going to become a real problem ndash with so few young people taking on a committed relationship with Christ in the church there are going to be fewer churches We need to be concerned and we need to take action
This same study indicates action plans need to begin at the local level Action needs to meet our young adults where they are ndash social media connections is the first of many recommendations They are using Facebook so we need to find them there Did you know that Annun-ciation Church has a Facebook site dedicated solely to the college and young adult age group We have numer-ous subscribers who read our weekly messages enjoy occasional cartoon items and more thoughtful reflec-tions on Gospel passages It is heartening to see many following us on Facebook
Another recommendation is for parishes to create out-
reach programs to their young adults especially those
attending college Again we have a program that is do-
ing this Our College Connection will reach out to 19
parish collegians this year This program is funded
through donations and through occasional coffee sales
during coffee hour The 2 Bucks for Starbucks program
is proving popular with parishioners and generates in-
come for College Connection mailings to our college
students If you are interested in learning more about
this study and their recommendations to combat this

Annunciation Meals Ministry
Jen Jansen is our meals ministry coordinator This program helps us feed our own parish families when unusual needs arise All details are on the website sign up By using the website we are able to keep track of when meals will be pro-vided with no overlapping deliveries of meals This really helps the receiving family so they dont get an overload one day and nothing on another day If you have questions please contact Jen Jansen Contact info and the website

Saint Basilrsquos Ministries
