Dear Colleague,

We look forward to welcoming you to Istanbul for the 101st FDI Annual World Dental Congress and Exhibition. This year’s scientific programme promises to be outstanding with internationally renowned speakers and we have also scheduled another series of the highly successful ‘early morning’ and ‘meet the expert’ sessions, first introduced in 2012.

Industry symposia are also on the programme. The Congress will cater equally to the needs of local, regional and international participants. Early signs are that the Congress exhibition will also be a record breaker, with well over half the 5,000 m2 space already reserved.

Istanbul needs little introduction: straddling the Bosphorous—one of the world’s busiest waterways—it is Turkey’s cultural capital, former seat of four empires and, today, an attractive destination for international meetings, boasting a brand new state-of-the-art convention centre and wide choice of world-class hotels and other accommodation.

Easily accessible by road rail, sea and air, Istanbul offers the visitor an unforgettable experience with its colourful neighbourhoods, warm, sunny climate, especially in late August, hospitable local population and superb cuisine and entertainment.

FDI 2013 Istanbul is jointly organized by our two organizations: FDI World Dental Federation and the Turkish Dental Association.

FDI, with some 200 member national dental associations and specialist groups from more than 130 countries, serves as the principal representative body for over one million dentists worldwide.

The Turkish Dental Association (TDA) is the collective ‘voice’ of nearly 24.000 dentists and the country’s regulatory body for dentistry.

We trust an outstanding congress, a wonderful venue, and expert organizers will make this the must event in dentistry in 2013. Join us in Istanbul 28 to 31 August!

On land Visitors can marvel at the splendours of Istanbul’s past such as the 5th century Hagia Sophia Museum and the 17th century Ottoman Blue Mosque, steep themselves in history at the Roman Hippodrome, feast their eyes on the treasures at Topkapi Palace, take a stroll through the world-famous Grand Bazaar and wind up the day with a tour of Istanbul by night.

Local tour details, prices and conditions are available on the congress website at: www.fdi2013istanbul.org.

Turkey: unique landscapes, historic events Unique landscapes Turkey offers visitors a land of unique landscapes, among them Cappadocia, with its unique, spectacular, surrealistic and multihued ‘Fairy Chimneys’, with Christian chapels and monasteries hollowed out of the rock during Byzantine times, later serving as a refuge for Christians, persecuted by the Romans.

A journey through history Part of Turkey’s long and varied history in on display at Ephesus, with its extensive Roman ruins and, nearby, the reputed last home of the Virgin Mary, at Pergamum, with its Acropolis, Altar of Zeus, and precipitous theatre, and at Asclepion, one of the foremost medical centres of the ancient world.
