There is no funding available from the Department for MPhils undertaking fieldwork. Students wishing to undertake researchabroad will incur costs for flights, accommodation and subsistence. If you have any concerns about this please speak theadmissions administrator before applying, noting that research abroad is not a mandatory part of the MPhil course.
2: PhD in Antarctic Studies
Certain projects may require additional funds for fieldwork or laboratory costs. In some cases students may need to contribute tothese costs.
3: MASt in Applied Mathematics
All MASt courses are treated as undergraduate courses for fee purposes. Overseas students are therefore also charged theundergraduate College fee. This varies from College to College. The estimated financial liability for the overseas College fee foradmission in 2017–18 ranges between £6,580 and £12,264 and is in addition to the University Composition Fee andmaintenance costs.

6: PhD in Archaeology
Additional costs may be incurred in relation to fieldwork or research trips. It is possible to apply for additional funding to coversome of these costs. Applicants should discuss any additional costs with their potential supervisor prior to application.
7: PhD in Architecture
Most of our students find it useful to work with a laptop.
Whilst our libraries our excellent, some students prefer to purchase books for their own use. They may also choose to undertakeresearch which necessitates specialist equipment and materials.
The Department advocates that students plan for research which they can arrange funding for. Fieldwork, visits and researchwhich take(s) place overseas can be costly.

8: MPhil in Architecture and Urban Design
Any full-time student eligible for Home/EU fees who started their Part 1 course before 1 September 2012 will be treated as anexisting student for the duration of the course and will be subject to different fees from those listed above. This will be the caseeven if they switch institutions between Part 1 and Part 2 as long as they remain in the UK, do not change their mode of study (egfrom full- to part-time), and do not have a gap of more than three academic years after completing Part 1. [email protected] if you think that you may be eligible to be charged "old regime" fees.
While there are bursaries available on a competitive basis, students are expected to meet or arrange for the costs of theirfieldwork. Students are also expected to fund their own materials and equipment (eg paper and print).
Please note that the given course fee is provisional and may be subject to increase.
9: MPhil in Architecture and Urban Studies
The department subsidises printing for all students, although students have to cover part of the cost. Other costs include voluntarytrips to conferences, usually within the United Kingdom. Sometimes, field trips are useful in order to carry out research. TheUniversity and its Colleges offer small bursaries for graduate students to give papers at conferences and go on field trips.Bursaries are awarded on a competitive basis and may not cover the full cost of the trip. Students are expected to purchaserelevant books and other basic working material (such as stationery).
10: MPhil in Assyriology
Additional costs may be incurred in relation to fieldwork or research trips. Applicants should discuss any additional costs with theirpotential supervisor prior to application.
11: MASt in Astrophysics
All MASt courses are treated as undergraduate courses for fee purposes. Overseas students are therefore also charged theundergraduate College fee. This varies from College to College and is in addition to the University Composition Fee andmaintenance costs. Visit the International Students Fees page on the Undergraduate Study website for more details.
12: PhD in Biochemistry
The costs involved in conducting the research project (consumables costs) may be covered in some scholarships or studentships. However, consumables costs are not covered by all such awards. Consequently, in the absence of such consumables fundingbeing provided, students may be required to bring funds of at least £5,000 per annum to cover the necessary consumables costs. For some projects with very high consumables demands significantly more than £5,000 per annum may be required.
13: MPhil in Biological Anthropological Science
Additional costs may be incurred in relation to fieldwork or laboratory work, depending on the applicant's specific researchinterests. Applicants should discuss any additional costs with their potential supervisor prior to application.
14: PhD in Biological Anthropology
Additional costs may be incurred in relation to fieldwork or laboratory work, depending on a student's research interests.Applicants should discuss any additional costs with their potential supervisor prior to application.
15: MPhil in Biological Science (Biochemistry)
As with the PhD programme, the experimental costs (consumables costs) involved in conducting the one-year MPhil researchproject may be covered in some scholarships or studentships. However, in the absence of such funding being provided, studentsmay be required to bring funds of at least £5,000 to cover the consumables costs. For particular projects that demandexceptionally high consumables expenditure, provision of funds significantly above £5,000 may be required from the student.
16: MPhil in Biological Science (Zoology)
Additional research costs are likely (eg lab consumables or fieldwork), but the amount will depend on the nature of the project.Applicants should discuss requirements with the prospective supervisor, who will be asked to confirm how these costs will be metprior to a conditional offer being made.

17: PhD in Biological Sciences at the Department of Veterinary Medicine
Depending on the project chosen by the student there may be additional expenses incurred for consumables or use ofspecialised equipment or services. A project may also incur additional costs if there is a large amount of travel and fieldworkrequired. We will endeavour to keep the amount to be charged to the student to a minimum and this will be discussed with thecandidate prior to any offer being made. Most projects offered by the Department are without additional costs.
18: MPhil in Bioscience Enterprise
Additional Costs: £ 500
Discretionary expenses are incurred by students whilst participating in extracurricular activities associated with the programme.Activities may include UK company visits; conference attendance; travel, occasional meals and refreshments; joint membership ofan industry organisation and other miscellaneous expenses. Payment is requested at the start of the Michaelmas term.
There is also usually an opportunity to gain a global perspective of the industry sector during a study tour to a internationalbiotechnology business cluster, an event that is planned and led by members of the class. The study tour is personally financedby the students. Occasionally a small contribution to the cost of travel is provided by Colleges, but this support is not universal orguaranteed.
19: Executive Master of Business Administration
In addition to the course fee, participants are required to pay for their accommodation while in Cambridge, travel costs to and fromCambridge, and travel costs to and from the country in which the international business trip takes place.
20: CRUK Cambridge Centre MRes + PhD in Cancer Biology
Please note that the information for subsequent year fees is based on current year rates and may be subject to change.
21: MRes + PhD in Cardiovascular Research
Please note that the information for subsequent year fees is based on current year rates and may be subject to change.
22: MPhil in Computational Biology
This course involves a mandatory internship. Students are advised that the Department does not provide funding to cover anycosts incurred as a result of carrying out this internship (eg travel costs). While many students carry out their internship inCambridge, some may choose to go further afield. Those students who undertake internships outside of Cambridge will beexpected to meet any additional costs themselves, unless arrangements can be made with the host organisation. If working away, the costs of returning to Cambridge to deliver the final assessed presentation will also need to be met by the student.
23: EPSRC CDT MPhil + PhD in Computational Methods for Materials Science
Please note that the information for subsequent year fees is based on current year rates and may be subject to change.
Certain projects may require additional funds for laboratory, fieldwork and long-term attachment costs. This could includeequipment, books, IT, photocopying, bespoke training, travel for conferences, research trips, summer schools and fieldwork costs.
Supervisors are often able to cover or partially contribute to these costs, depending on the financial resources available. Wherenot possible, or where research-related costs are not specifically included in a stipend, or if students are self-funded, students willusually be expected to raise the associated research costs themselves. In some cases research costs may be much higher, forexample if a long-term attachment is required, and in these cases applicants should agree with their supervisor what anappropriate amount might be, or consider a more feasible project, before accepting an offer or signing the Financial UndertakingForm.
24: MPhil in Conservation Leadership
In some cases students undertake fieldwork for their professional placement which incurs additional costs.
These costs are sometimes covered by the organisation hosting the placement, and in addition up to £500 is available fromcourse funds for travel and appropriate expenses. However, in some cases there is a shortfall that needs to be covered by thestudent from their personal funds. Any such potential shortfall is made clear at the stage of selecting a placement. There arealways many placements available that involve no additional cost to students, meaning that the availability of additional funds isnot in any way a limiting factor on the ability of a student to complete the course. Where additional funds need to be raised for aplacement, students are sometimes able to find support from their college or departmental fieldwork funds, although these cannotbe guaranteed. The maximum shortfall that a student might need to find to cover a placement that involves additional costs is inthe region of £1500.
