Dear Friends of Blessed Trinity:

In everything we do, we always look to our mission statement for guidance. The four pillars of that statement, spiritual formation, academic excellence, artistic sensibility, and athletic achievement, provide a framework for decision-making, growth, and especially for the overall development of our students.

This year’s Annual Report focuses on community service, which I think of as the lab for putting into practice the spiritual formation pillar. Our students perform many thousands of hours of service to church and community under the heading of “works of mercy.” Many of these hours are performed quietly by individuals or small groups, and many hours are logged by larger groups, such as our school’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference volunteering with homeless young people through Stand Up for Kids, our baseball team working with disabled kids in Miracle League, and our volleyball teams spending many hours preparing for and then hosting their annual Serve for the Cure Tournament to support the American Cancer Society’s fight to find a cure for breast cancer.

In addition, we had the largest group ever dedicate their spring break to take a mission trip to Nicaragua, and our Habitat for Humanity chapter was once again honored as one of the top campus chapters in the country and received a $10,000 grant from State Farm for their efforts.

The biggest service project involves the entire senior class spending the day at Homestretch, right here in Roswell, cleaning out houses, painting, and landscaping the 12-home community for families transitioning from homelessness.

You have much to be proud of in what Blessed Trinity students do beyond the requirements of the classroom. I do very much want to give you a special “thank you” for making the additional sacrifice of contributing to the school over and above your tuition. Your gifts to the Annual Fund and Capital Campaign provide so much more to the most deserving people I know – your children and our students. If you did not support the Annual Fund and Capital Campaign last year, please consider doing so now. Your tuition covers the basics of running the school, but the additional gifts really help our programs to take off.

Yours in Christ,

Frank MoorePrincipal

Dear Blessed Trinity Supporters:

The 2012-2013 school year was an outstanding year for Blessed Trinity in many ways.

The second year of the “This Is Our Moment” Capital Campaign ended with over $2.6 million dollars in pledges and enough of those pledges were funded to allow the first projects to begin. In June, graders, bulldozers and dump trucks began excavating dirt from the lacrosse/soccer field on the lower level and by the end of the summer our first turfed field was completed. The construction company then moved to the baseball field and we anticipate this project will be completed early this fall.

We want to thank everyone who has participated in the Capital Campaign. We now have over 50% of the Blessed Trinity community committed to the capital campaign and anticipate making our first external grant application later this year.

We continued to receive good support from the community for the Annual Fund with 300 families participating as well as over 90% of our faculty and staff. Over $310,000 in contributions were received, and many summer projects were able to be funded with Annual Fund dollars. These included the addition of two new classrooms, upgraded security systems and the continued cycle of upgrading our technology.

The annual Auction Gala was brought on campus for the first time in March and it proved to be a big success. Everyone who attended, walked through the back doors to the aux gym and believed they had walked on to a luxury cruise ship. Holding the Auction on campus was a huge undertaking and could not have happened without the inspirational leadership of the Auction chairs, Laura Massaro and Kristen Scott, along with their army of volunteers. With roughly 400 attendees, the Auction Gala became THE community event of the year at BT. Because of its success, we will once again be holding the annual Auction Gala on campus in 2013-2014.

Finally, I want to thank all the parent volunteers. Whether you served on a board, coached, provided food, worked a concession stand or ticket gate, your contribution to the overall success of Blessed Trinity was very much needed and appreciated.

Once again, thank you to all of our supporters for everything you did to make 2012-2013 such a successful year.

Sincerely,

Chuck OliverDirector of Development

One spike at a time

Giving back ...

In October 2012, the Blessed Trinity volleyball team hosted its 5th annual Serve for the Cure Invitational Volleyball Tournament. All proceeds from the tournament, which so far has raised over $23,000, go to fund breast cancer research through the American Cancer Society. During the tournament, the Lady Titans show their support by wearing pink warm-up t-shirts, tie-dyed pink socks, and pink hair ribbons.

“The inspiration for this fundraiser came through very personal experiences,” said BT coach Paul Stevens. “A number of the mothers of our players are breast cancer survivors, so it seemed like a great cause to take on. This year we will be dedicating the tournament to the memory of our assistant coach’s mother, Patti Murphy, who lost her fight in May.”

Come out and support Serve for the Cure on October 4 and 5, 2013.

Providing shelter

BT’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity participates in various fundraising efforts in order to bring affordable housing to those in need. One of the major milestones from this past school year came when Habitat reached its goal of raising $10,000 thus receiving a matching State Farm grant - enabling the chapter to give $20,000 toward making life a little easier for a needy family.

Habitat has been a part of the BT landscape for eight years when Marianne McGoldrick ‘06 and her father, Robert, started the BT chapter. “A few weeks after BT’s first build was completed, Habitat held an event to thank the volunteers and sponsors and to present the keys to the homeowners,” remembered Robert McGoldrick. “Marianne was excited to be there with her parents and friends. We were witnessing the fruits of their labor. Tears filled our eyes as the keys were handed to the homeowners and they expressed their gratitude and thanksgiving.

“Again, tears fill my eyes when I think of the hard work, dedication, faith and love that made this happen. The proverbial mustard seed that was planted so many years ago took root. To think that the parents and the school inspired these young women and men to give so completely and freely of their time and treasure to help a complete stranger obtain a ‘simple, decent place to live.’ It is overwhelming and the perfect example of following Christ’s teaching,” said Mr. McGoldrick.

My passion is service

Giving back ...

“In the eyes of many, service is just something required for graduation. It helps others, but it is done with the intention of fulfilling a requirement and nothing more. There isn’t anything wrong with this, for helping people is the same no matter what intention one might hold.

“Service for me, however, lies within my heart and the hearts of the people I serve. In our second mission trip to Nicaragua, we were taught not only to humble ourselves to relate to the poorest of the poor, but we also were serving the people and working for them, alongside them. We were to show them how much of an honor and privilege it was to work with them, instead of it being the other way around.” - Naomi Wildschut ‘14

GRACE Scholars ProgramBlessed Trinity Catholic High School participates in the G.R.A.C.E. Scholars program, a state-approved Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) established by the Archdiocese of Atlanta. In 2008, the state of Georgia passed legislation which allows Georgia residents to re-direct a portion of their state income taxes to a private school of their choice for use in providing financial aid to students coming from public schools. The students must qualify for the financial aid based on need.

Last year, 192 participants in the G.R.A.C.E. program selected Blessed Trinity as the recipient of their funds. As a result, Blessed Trinity received over $215,000 and was able to provide financial aid to fourteen new students who otherwise might not have been able to afford a quality Catholic education. These students will continue to receive financial aid for the next four years provided they continue to qualify. This year, Blessed Trinity was able to fully fund the financial needs of 100% of the students coming from public schools who qualified for financial aid through G.R.A.C.E. Because these funds came from G.R.A.C.E., it allowed regularly budgeted financial aid dollars to go farther in supporting the financial needs of the students coming from our Catholic feeder schools and other private schools.

We want to thank the following families who chose to participate in the G.R.A.C.E. Scholars program and hope that they continue to choose G.R.A.C.E. as part of their tax planning strategy for years to come.

While GRACE participation addresses the school’s critical need for targeted financial aid funding, it should not be considered a donation. It is, rather, a re-direction of tax monies already owed to the state. We continue to be grateful for your much-needed contributions to the school’s Annual Fund as they help us meet overall budgetary obligations.

The second year of the “This Is Our Moment” Capital Campaign has now been completed. Because of the generosity of all the supporters listed below, enough funds have been contributed to begin construction of the first projects. Over the summer, the lacrosse/soccer field was installed and work has also begun on the baseball field. Over 50% of all BT families have participated in the campaign and over 70% of our faculty and staff. We are now approaching the $3 million mark in total pledges to the campaign.

We want to say “thank you” to all the families who have supported the campaign. Your generosity will continue to touch the lives of BT students for generations to come.

Awareness, hope, and a cure

Andrew Vassil’ 14 was only six-years old when he started to experience painful headaches. After being misdiagnosed with a sinus infection, Andrew and his parents were soon told that he had an inoperable brain tumor - hypothalamic juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma. Andrew started radiation treatments at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, to shrink the tumor. As of today, Andrew’s tumor is stable and he is doing all he can for other children with cancer.

Andrew and his family have participated in many different fundraisers and childhood cancer events throughout the years. Andrew is a consummate orator, giving speeches in front of thousands of people attending fundraisers.

To date, Team Andrew, a group of family, friends and many from the BT community, has run in St. Jude’s annual race, raising over $400,000. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of St. Jude last year, the team set a high goal. “We had never raised 50k in the years of fundraising,” said Andrew, “so it was a great goal. We far surpassed this goal by raising an amazing $87,000. Of all the St. Jude hero teams (over 7,000 heroes in the race) we came in third place behind two corporate teams.”

Missionary travels across nations

Giving back ...

Over the years, Blessed Trinity students, faculty members and parents have traveled the globe to help those less fortunate. Mission trips have included travels to the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Gulf Coast area of the US, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Jamaica, South Africa, and Lourdes, France.

BT’s mission trips, funded through student-led activities during the school year, are designed to provide a spiritual and cross-cultural experience as our community serves alongside others.

Upon his return from Nicaragua, BT senior Adrian Hanson, included in his testimonial: “God has a plan for all of us. He is writing a story and part of that story was to send me to Nicaragua. He was teaching me about the world and about myself.”

Dirt and smiles on Service Day

Giving back ...

Every year, the senior class participates in a Senior Service Day project - one of the most anticipated events for the graduates! The day begins with Mass followed by students, faculty and parents heading over to the service sites for a few hours. After the site work has been complete, the hungry and dirty group drives to Roswell Park were parent volunteers await with lunch.

For the past eight years, BT has been giving a hand, well a few hundred hands, sprucing up the homes and lawns at HomeStretch located in Roswell. Homestretch is a non-profit organization that provides temporary housing for local families who find themselves homeless.

With usually 200+ high school seniors and two dozen or so adults all equipped with paintbrushes, rakes, cleaning supplies, and hearts for truly helping their community, the inside and outside of the homes are revived and transformed!

Ways To GiveEach and every gift that is given to Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, regardless of the

amount, holds an immeasurable level of importance to the school. All gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Careful planning of your gift can not only help to maximize the gift that you make to the school, but also your personal goals as well. Legal and financial advisors can best help you determine the type of gift most advantageous and appropriate for you to make.

There are several opportunities for faculty and staff, alumni, parents, and friends to financially support our school.

ANNUAL FUND - The Annual Fund is the most important fundraising effort each school year. At BT, tuition revenues cover the basic operations of the school. Additional requested budget items can only be funded through a successful Annual Fund campaign. Each year, there is a gap between revenues from tuition and the amount needed to fund the entire school budget. Our goal is to have 100% participation in the Annual Fund from our faculty, staff and parent community, regardless of the amount you are able to contribute. Please help to increase our overall participation rate by making a contribution.

CApitAL CAmpAiGN - Periodic capital campaigns raise additional non-operating funds for major efforts like new construction and endowment. These funds can significantly enhance and improve facilities, which will keep Blessed Trinity at the forefront of a competitive educational marketplace. Capital contributions are generally pledged and paid over three to five years.

ENDowmENt - An endowment has been established at Blessed Trinity. Ten percent of all contributions to the Capital Campaign will be earmarked for the Endowment. The Endowment is the school’s savings account and provides long-term financial stability. Proceeds from the investment of our endowment will be earmarked for Campus Ministry initiatives, faculty development and financial aid.

AUCtioN & GALA - The Annual Auction & Gala, held in March, is the single-largest fundraising event for the school. In order to have a successful Auction & Gala, we need volunteers, donated items, sponsorships and attendees. To learn more on getting involved in the Auction, please contact the Development office.

FiNE ARtS ASSoCiAtioN - Different levels of membership are available for the BT Fine Arts Association. Each membership has its own set of benefits, including tickets and apparel. All proceeds help pay the expenses for the school’s arts program.

AtHLEtiC ASSoCiAtioN - Different levels of membership are available for the BT Athletic Association. Each membership has its own set of benefits, including tickets and apparel. All proceeds help pay the expenses of the school’s athletic program.

SCHoLARSHipS & ENDowmENtS - The school has several endowed scholarships, awards, and funds. Only the interest of these gifts is awarded each year. With the principal’s approval, donors may contribute any amount to an existing endowment, or endow a scholarship of their own with a minimum gift of $20,000.

There are many different methods that donors may choose to fund their gift:monetary - Your gifts provide immediate tax savings through deductions and provides the school with funds for current use. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are all accepted.

Securities - Some donors choose to transfer stock to BT as their gift each year. Contact the Development Office to make these arrangements.

matching Gifts - A matching gift is when an employer will match the charitable contribution made by an employee or the spouse of an employee. This can multiply your gift to the school by simply completing the appropriate form from your company. Check with your Human Resources Department about their matching gifts policies and procedures.

Gifts in Kind - These non-cash gifts include items that the school needs and uses including, but not limited to, furniture, office supplies, or printing services.

planned Gifts - The most common planned gift is when a donor leaves a gift to the school as part of a will. Other planned gifts include life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, and annuity trusts.

Establish a Scholarship or Endowment - The school has six endowed scholarships: Goizueta Foundation, Robert White/UPS, Jessica Turner Memorial, Kevin Mann Memorial, Devon McKniff Memorial, and the Elizabeth Huffner Memorial Scholarship. Donors may endow a scholarship of their own for a minimum gift of $20,000.

If you would like to learn more about ways to give, please contact the Development Office.
